Immediate impact? Check. Big plays? Check. Consistency? Well ... junior receiver Cordarrelle Patterson is getting there, according to his Tennessee coaches.

  • This is the same junk we heard when DR & JH were on the field together! How is it Paterson can be so good against NC St & really not do a whole lot against anyone else??
Did he forget how to catch & run & make plays from 1 game to the next??
Chaney can't really manage 2stud receivers on the field @ 1 time! Or have a running gameplan that works! Its almost like he gets caught up n the game & forgets he is actually the 1 controlling the game!!!
I get very frustrated with his play calling!! & with CDD's lack of putting playmakers on the field & letting them just do it!!!!

  • I'm new to GoVols247, so I might be a little out of the loop when it comes to all of the inside information. But could someone tell me why Patterson was a JUCO player to begin with? I've always assumed it was his grades in high school that prevented him from going to a D-1 school immediately but I've never been able to find any way to confirm this.

    Butch, please!

  • The offense is ok. If the defense was comparable we would be pretty good. Chaney's play calling is fine.

  • Just my opinion but it appears to me that Bray is really focusing in on Hunter. If you watched the NC State game after CP got off to that fantastic start Bray was forcing the ball to Hunter and Hunter was very frustrated in not scoring. I think that Bray, Hunter and Patterson are all great talents with a ton of upside but they are still a year away from being high 1st round picks. Time will tell and I'm hoping they stay and have 2 super seasons.

  • Great report Wes. Thanks.

CP is most definitely a weapon we must utilize and at this point in our season. As we face this run of the toughest of our SEC foes, we will need to utilize every single player on the offensive side of the ball.

CP is a perfect example of this but it goes to every one of our offensive weapons: obviously CP and Hunter; Rogers and Pig; also Rivera and Downs; then Bartholomew and King at H: and our stable of backs in Neal, Lane, Young; and of course our O line.

So, when you look at our 2 deep, there is game changing talent there at every position. Now, we also know that they aren't at the top of their development yet, but they are still play makers and game changers.

My point here is that Coach Chaney is at a crucial point with his offense. I feel in many respects it starting to boil down to Coach Chaney himself and his offensive scheme and how he calls the plays in live game play; how he uses all of our weapons to chip away at a quality defense ( and do it in sustained drives not just quick strike bombs ). Sure, we all know the players have to execute. But it’s time for the scheme and play calls to elevate our game.

I've always liked Chaney and still do, BUT I have many times wondered about him really taking our offensive to the next level: Can he do that? I want him to do that; we need him to do that, and I think now is the critical time.

The Dogs can be beaten this Saturday by Vols.

  • I have a real hard time believing we will beat the dogs!! We just have not shown anything that proves we are capable of actually doing it! I love the VOLS! I dare say there aren't many on this board that have a power T tat on their shoulder.
But,, until CDD pulls the crucial trigger to get that signature win, it's just not something that he's done thus far!
I think he's a really smart guy, a good guy & a top notch recruiter! Head coach????? Idk!!

That's been my sense, too: CP got off to a rocket start against NC St and since the first half or so of that game, I don't know he's gotten a lot of balls thrown his way. I question if Bray's using all his available weapons. Maybe he's doing this already, but I wish he'd simply take what the defense is giving him: if they're doubling up Hunter, then go to CP. If they're doubling CP, go to Hunter. If both are covered, look for Rivera or somebody else. We've got a lot of great hands out there...
