Peters switches to Arkansas

Top247 linebacker Otha Peters of Covington (La.) High School backed out on his longstanding commitment to Tennessee on Tuesday and switched his pledge to Arkansas.

  • I wanna go on a baby punching spree! This crap is so ridiculous these kids should not be allowed to "commit" to a school. All it does is show everyone that their word is as good as nothing. And to any future recruits don't take pictures in a Vol jersey for your twitter account and claim to be #VFL and then flip. Not. Cool.

Glad to have you on the board. Sorry your first post had to be to vent about a decommitment, but we're happy to see you posting regardless. biggrin

  • Here's hoping CDD & CSS can get him to rethink that decision but just goes to show how quickly an eighteen year old can change his mind if what he said yesterday was legit. Guess we'll just have to ride the roller coaster until it's all in ink.

  • Everyone come in off the ledge. Regardless of who signs and who does not sign tomorrow, come fall the Vols will strap it on and compete with the young men that are willing to give their all for Tennessee...and we will be right there pulling for them every game....Go Big Orange!...I'll hang up and listen to your comments...

  • I just heard Tom Luginbill on Finebaum say that Korren Kirven was possibly going to sign with Alabama, Tom didn't mention Tech or Tennessee as possible destinations. Just as I figured a few weeks ago, this class is going to crumble in the next few hours. The bad luck continues for the Vols. Now you know why the staff was offering guys like Robison and Brown at the last minute. This could be a PR disaster.

  • With apologies to ol' Willie S. of Stratford upon Avon: Out! Out , brief shadow! Our recruits prior to NSD are but brief shadows that strut and fret their hour upon the Volunteer stage and are then heard no more. Our 2012 recruiting class shall on the morrow become a tale told by an idiot, previously full of sound and fury, but now signifying nothing!"

I've always been a big CDD supporter, but unless he pulls some huge surprises out of his hat (at least two 4 stars at positions of need, w/at least one an ILB) tomorrow morning, I really do think the KY game is gonna be the end of him. He had to, IMO, at minimum make a huge splash in recruiting or win big (9 games) next year. Hope I'm wrong, but as for now, I don't really give a rodent's rectum how good the early 2013 class is, b/c it won't matter anyway if we're looking for our umpteenth HC in the last 5 years. And that on a budget, b/c word is (and Wes can back me up on this, I think) the biggest $$ donors told Hammy there wasn't gonna be any Brinks truck backed up to any prospective coach, as Clay Travis keeps whining for, or at least the Univ. was gonna have to pay for the 6 mill./yr. to get that kind of coach.

I can now see the light at the end of the tunnel. The good news: it ain't an approaching train. The bad: it's an angry gorilla holding a big Maglite ready to beat us over the head w/it.

Unfortunately, I couldn't agree more. Here's desperately hoping you're dead wrong, but I've been thinking and saying the same thing for a long time, too.

Most damning of all is this, from his coach: "... ultimately, he wants to play for a team that has a chance to win championships. And Arkansas right now is ahead of Tennessee in that category.”

Translation: "He likes everybody up there and everything, but, I mean, ya'll suck right now. Sorry."

I'm praying that I'm wrong, but I wonder how many "solid commits" this staff actually has? I've been uncertain for a while, and now I'm really uncertain. Peters was supposed to be pretty solid according to what I've read on here. I'm a little nervous that they are going to have to raid the Carson Newman roster come Thursday. With the way things have been going the last couple of years that's probably not out of the question yet.

No, the sky isn't falling, even if Tennessee never wins another football game. No one got cancer; no one was hurt in a car wreck; no child was harmed; and no one was killed, all of which are far more important than any sport, BUT remember that "fan" comes from "fanatic," which implies by definition an element of irrational devotion.

If someone can always calmly, coolly and objectively evaluate their team, they're more of a "follower" of the team than a fan, IMO.

And as I've been saying, I'd be more than happy to eat some southern fried crow tomorrow morning. But momentum often goes both ways in recruiting, and it sure seems it's going against us right now.

  • 1989 was the last time Ark won an SEC title I think and UT has put 5 LBs in the draft since 2005 while Ark only 1 (and that was a 5th rounder). The coach and this kid needs to do some research.
