Peters switches to Arkansas

1989 was the last time Ark won an SEC title I think and UT has put 5 LBs in the draft since 2005 while Ark only 1 (and that was a 5th rounder). The coach and this kid needs to do some research.

Arkansas didn't win the SEC in 1989 because they were not in the SEC until 1992. Arkansas has NEVER won an SEC title. fail

Arkansas has never won an SEC title. They joined in 1992, along with South Carolina.

    Edit: Woops, already pointed out.

  • Like I've said prior, I can stomach losing Santos to Texas...because it is TEXAS. But Arkansas? Do they even play defense in Arkansas? Arkansas hasn't ever won the SEC, and they won't w/Alabama and LSU dominating the West. Not sure how this young man thinks he'll be playing for championships...unless he's talking about Cotton Bowl Championships?!!? With that said, I wish him well at Arkansas. Seems like a great young man, and I imagine this decision was a very difficult one for him to make...

  • Don't know how you can say "there is a good good good chance I will be signing with UT on NSD" and then commit to anoother team less than 24 hours later. I knew there were too many goods in there to be sincere. It is obvious that these kids don't understand that all you have in life is your name and your word. It's best just to keep your mouth shut if you don't know what you are going to do instead of making yourself look like an idiot.

  • Arkansas has never won a sec championship. They joined in 1992 and are 0-3 in the sec championship game.

  • Losing two commits in the past couple of days is starting to smell like negative recruiting. I think the loss of Santos hurt UT a little, but the loss of Peters is a bad one without a doubt. I don't see how he can be committed to UT for several months, then visit with his mother and declare himself all Vol, then take one visit to Arkansas and be a hog. It doesn't make sense. Hopefully, he'll wake up tomorrow and come to his senses. Arkansas? Are you kidding? What a waste.

  • News flash: to win championships you have to beat LSU and Alabama. Reality: Arkansas's best team in years got humiliated by both teams. I would say a very young talented Tennessee team in the relatively weak SEC east is going to be set up better for a championship than Arkansas

I've been watching this saga play out over the past week and had an uneasy feeling about how it was going to end? All I can say is uuuugh!! Like many of you, I'm scratching my head over this whole "committment" thing when in clearly does not mean squat with some (and I emphasize some, certainly not all!) of these guys. Listen, I understand that these are highly impressionable 18yr kids that are faced with a huge decision, BUT with all the public/fan scrutiny & the recruits adding to the drama via social media, I would prefer a no commitment stance until they truly have made a decision... that I can understand & respect. Looks like some parental and HS coach counsel would be well advised! Nuff said on that...

Now, back to the status of the pending class. If things end as we suspect with a big flame out at the LB's, where does that leave us in these critical positions? Got to think the coaches have backups on the board? And lastly, general consensus on whether these de-committs really raise concerns with negative momentum effecting other signees tmrw?

I'll hang-up and listen. Thx folks.

  • This is depressing.

I would say, though, that UT's 2012 season (and Dooley's / this staff's job security) rests a lot more on the 19 returning starters from last year than on the 19(?) or however many we sign tomorrow. We need this class, no doubt, but I think it will have a greater effect (good or ill) 2-4 years down the road than it will today.

Another thing: Dooley said (is this coaching PR fluff or reality?) that he was playing catch-up on the 2011 & 2012 recruiting classes - that 2013 was the first class in which he was caught up with other schools' recruiting efforts. (2010 was Kiffin's recruiting class he came in 2 weeks before NSD and salvaged -- largely intact. We dodged a big bullet then. Our luck's wearing thin with this class.) I think a lot of this coming year's season (and Dooley & Co's job security) is going to come down to who stays healthy and which of our best recruits develop quickly. In 2011, lightening struck 3-4 times: Herman Lather's season-ending injury, Janzen's getting booted off the team, Hunter's ACL & Bray's broken thumb. Let's hope we had the injuries at key positions then and don't get revisited in 2012.

Let's also hope we've had enough assistant coaching turn-over to meet our quota for a few years. Graham & Sunseri should be here next year, as should Pittman -- and those guys will be for us the key recruiters in 2013 and beyond that Sirmon was for us this year (and last)? Having coaches stay on through signing day and not quit the 4-6 weeks leading up to it (Kiffin & his entire staff in 2010; Wilcox, Sirmon, Thompson and all but about 3 assistants in 2012) should help a lot in '13 and beyond.

This program's weathered a lot of bad weather since '08. Seems reason to hope fortune turns for the better at some point.

You're right. Our (Arkansas') defense has struggled the past two seasons; however, we have won 21 games the past two seasons. If Peters doesn't flip back to Tennessee, he will definitely make an impact here at Arkansas. I don't really understand the trash talking on here about my Hogs. The Vols have a great class, but I don't see what's so appealing right now. IMO, Dooley is in over his head after what Lane Kiffin left behind (Kiffin is an asshole by the way). Sure you guys were awesome in the '90s and early 2000s, but come on guys. If you can't take a step back and notice what Petrino has done at Arkansas in his short stint here, then you are incredibly oblivious to college football.

49-7 seems like a score where Arkansas played "some" defense, no?

However, I do wish you guys the best...

P.S. I was only a little kid at the time, but the whole Stoerner stumble still gets to me.

Yup, without our starting QB and best playmaker.

    Makes it a bit easier.

I know Bray, along with his awesome tattoos, is talented... but I don't know about a 42 point difference, sir.

I doubt Bray and the other playmaker could have stopped this bad man...

    Play

Joe Adams punt return against Tennessee

So I got tired of seeing all the videos of this punt return on youtube being recorded from a camera or phone, so I figured I would actually upload a good quality video of the play of the year. Go Hogs. Woo Pig Sooie.
