Peyton Manning - What now?

  • Assuming the inevitable runs its course and Manning is released from his contract by the Colts what do you think he should do? If you think he shouldn't retire which team should he play for and why? If you think he should retire do you think he should coach and where? Also, what are your feelings about the Colts moving forward?

  • He gives ant team the possibility at a championship if he is healthy. I would like to see him play for a team with an established defense. San Fran and Miami would both be good settings.
Colts are doomed for 2-3 years- I have already fled as a fan.

  • Personally, for selfish reasons alone, I want him on Titans so I could see him play in person again!

  • Again I'll say that Peyton and Reggie Wayne will go to Miami together. Wayne lives in Miami and is a free agent this year. Peyton throwing to Wayne, Marshall, and Fasano with Reggie Bush in the backfield just might work.
Tennessee Lady Vols colors would be compatible with the Dolphins colors.

  • Should he retire, he should be hired as QB coach for the Vols and replace CJC when he retires.

  • I think it's debatable whether he even would want to get into coaching, especially right away, if he ended up retiring any time soon. I always have viewed broadcasting as a possibility for Manning, and I think that might be the first avenue he explores if he's forced to retire because of the injury. And even if he decided to coach, he probably would need to go serve as a graduate assistant somewhere to work his way up the ladder and get his feet wet before anyone would hire him as a full-time assistant.

If he continues playing, I just hope he ends up going somewhere he can contend. He deserves to go out on a better note than this.

I have to disagree that he would need to start as a graduate assistant. I think you're right about Peyton venturing into broadcasting, at least in the short term, but if and when he decided to give coaching a shot there would be several head coaches that would be more than happy to give him a spot on the staff as long as Peyton is willing to be an underling for a while.

I could see him as more of a NFL coach, rather than a college coach right away. Plus, i am one of the few people that is not convinced he will get released if healthy.

I hear you, but here's the thing: Just because you're a great player doesn't mean you'll make a great coach. As smart as Peyton is, he may not be great at teaching the game to others, which is a totally different challenge. Just look at Wayne Gretzky in hockey, Isaiah Thomas in basketball and Mike Singletary in football. You just don't know how it's going to work out until someone tries to do it himself.

i agree with you Ryan except he and his family have been coaching kids to play QB for years and i dont think Peyton is your normal everyday QB as you have been seeing him " coach players " on the sidelines for years . Would have to think that there would be lots of colleges that would pay him lots of money to come and be a QB coach with maybe assist OFF coordinator responsibilities . Can you imagine having him help coach Qb's everyday ?? and then to have him go out and recruit some of your off players esp QB's ?? wow BUt i do think he would be a great commentator as well cheers

  • I don't know that he will ever coach. His work ethic is so great that I don't know if he would ever recruit a qb that would put the hours and effort in that Peyton would expect. He does deserve better I do think Wayne follows him and he ends up in Miami or Arizona.

Yes, but you're saying that no coach or owner may be willing to give him his shot without proof and I'm saying that based on reputation alone, much like the people you just mentioned, he would receive a shot at the assistant coach level. I know if I were an owner I would be willing to let him be my quarterbacks coach. Isn't that where Harbough started?

Either situation is fine, but I love the idea of Peyton in Arizona. I've always kind of liked the franchise and with a beefed up o-line he could easily head-line their organization for 3-5 years if he comes back 100%. All the tools and salary cap space is there. I think it could be a really firm partnership.

I agree completely if Wayne follows could ne a nasty offense. Fitzgerald wayne beanie wells with that oline.

I think he needs to retire while he's on top... Hate to see him stop playing, but I'd hate even more for him to go out in a Favre-ish manner.

Agreed, or worse get hurt and have to have surgery on his neck again.
