Phillip Fulmer ?

  • I'm not saying I would want him back I'm just asking to see everyone's thoughts ..
What if they were to bring back Phil and he was able to get Chavis as DC and bring in Kippy Brown as OC how would that set with the fans

  • If I was an omnipotent AD, here is how I would look at it:

    1. Gruden > Fulmer because new energy & "star" power
    2. Stoops > Fulmer - ditto
    3. Strong > Fulmer because of hunger and wanting to take next big step on the most prominent stage
    4. Petrino < Fulmer - too much baggage
    5. Fedora < Fulmer - if Coach Fulmer can bring back Chavis, retain Graham & Pittman, bring in Tee Martin and find a hot OC . . .
    6. Golden < Fulmer - ditto

Long story short, if Hart cannot land one of the so-called "Big 3", why not consider Coach Fulmer? Graham & Pittman can obviously coach, Graham, Hinshaw and Tee Martin are reportedly excellent recruiters, and Fulmer would stand a shot at bringing Chavis home. The biggest question during this "transition" period would be who would be groomed to take over the head spot once the ship is stable?

If we cannot land the "big one", I would rather see this scenario instead of another Kiffen/Dooley experiment.

  • I like Phil, and really appreciate all he did for the university, but there's a reason he hasn't landed another big time HC gig. He was good for a time, but his head coaching career has ran it's course, IMO. Chavis will probably retire at LSU.

I think chavis would come back in second if fulmer was here and I think they could probably get us back to the top after fulmer had Time to set back and see where it all went wrong and have the right staff to fix it it

  • One word NO! He couldn't coach when he was here and a few years of rust and younger kids want help. If there was the talent of the 90's I could coach. He had great assistants, and utilmately that is what makes the team great. He was a great Pr man and cheer leader, and that worked for a while, but then came the lazy years and trying to rest on his laurels. Why go back 10 years, when we have the opportunity to move forward.

+1, but I also remember the Vols in the SEC Championship in 2007 and being ranked. I am certainly not in favor of moving Fulmer to the head of the line, but if the Vols don't get in on one of the top 3, I would be ok with Snyder Part Deaux.

Maybe give you the job, you stated you could coach this team in the 90's lol. Typical armchair coach you should respect this man for the years he put his heart and soul into this University. Phil Fulmer has accomplished more in his career and life then most people can ever dream of. Played at his home state college, HC at his alma Mater, won NC and finished strong most years in the rankings. Yes at the end he did get lax I agree but he was one of the best to ever walk this sideline and you should respect that instead of talk garbage

  • Philip Fulmer has said he would get back into coaching if the right opportunity was there. I don't believe for a second that a man with his overall record and a National Championship under his belt could not get another great job if he really wanted it. When he says "the right situation" i wonder if he really means "Tennessee". This is home. This is where his family is. People say he needed great coordinators around him to have success. I say, who doesn't? Dooley had many problems but one of them was not having the right defensive coordinator. I am not saying it will happen or should happen but I have to believe he is on the list. If we strike out on some of our big names we could do much worse than brining back a coach that lives and breathes Tennessee football and has succeeded at the highest level. Get great recruiters around him and the right coordinators and a man that feels he was wronged with something to prove and I believe he would succeed again.
