Phillips commits to Tennessee

I don't see him starting this year unless he is really talented. He ia going to be behind the curb and will have to play lots of catch up. But still very excited and hope he gets on the field.

What are the rules on the possibility of him working out with the team now though he has not been cleared academically? Could that potentially be happening or is it fact that he will have to wait till fall...at least portions of what they do (mainly the strength and conditioning portions)...and if nothing else, I would think he is at least cleared to watch practice from the sidelines now correct? I would just like to know he is able to SOMETHING football related now. Either be working on that weight and/or being able to get introduced to the new defensive schemes in some way.

At first I was concerned about his weight. But the more I thought about (and Sal is all that matters) Phillips may fit into more schemes as he comes down. He definitely cud add depth at DT in 4-3 and probably DE in 4-3..AND there's probably many was to "mix and match" his size and talent to multiple schemes even in 3-4 (closer to middle the heavier he is).

I don't know why he is just a commit at this time. Let him go ahead and sign the letter of intent and then start wading through the admissions process. If he signs, and by some chance isn't admitted, I'm pretty sure it wouldn't count against the scholarship limit for the year. But I'll admit I could be wrong about that.
