It's unreal how fickle our fan base is. Most people on here are talking about how dumb Hart would be if he didn't pay him the $6+ million to be our coach. We're talking about paying a coach that hasn't won a single game on the college level or recruited in over 15 years in college more than a guy that has 3 national championships from 2 different SEC schools. I don't mind them paying him, but I can't intelligently say that Hart would be dumb not to do so. Say he wants 6-8 years and doesn't work out after 3 years or doesn't beat the Gators in any of those 3 and then the fan base is calling for his throat; then we'd owe him $18-30 million!!
Yes we need to spend money to make it, but wins also accomplishes the same thing and there are other coaches available in the $2-3 million range that have proven to win in college that could accomplish the same goal. Not as sexy or have the unification of the fan base as Gruden, but after season 1 we'd be in the same spot more than likely.
It's easy to tell someone what to do when they have 0 ramifications or big money invested. I'll back Hart either way and support whomever dons the Orange!
Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves.
I agree. Gruden would be a grand slam hire no doubt, but there are candidates out there who could turn it around and maybe quicker than we even think. Who saw Texas A&M sitting at 10-2 right now? It happens guys. It was unknown how Sumlin would handle this level of football, but A&M gave him the funds to surround himself with excellent coach's and recruiters and BOOM they are back in one season. We just have to trust that Hart is going to do what is absolutely the best for Tennessee as scary as that really sounds.

Absolutely agree. Sumlin will get the same recruits now as Gruden because he's proven that he can win and A&M has it for $4million less a year than Gruden is requesting, w/ 0 college HC experience. Hart has been around this long enough to know all of the ramifications, but he also knows that no matter what, wins are what matters and wins are what produces $$$ and butts in seats. If he gets a coach that can produce wins, then 1 year from now everyone says Gruden who?
