    A lot IMO.

There was a good discussion yesterday about reasons fr and against retaining Hinshaw, this should answer that.

I posted on that thread that I supported Hinshaw staying on, but this has me rethinking it. Most of that opinion was because he seems to be really liked by a lot of his recruits (e.g. Patterson). That's all great and everything, but with this reputation, there's no telling how many kids we missed on. And not just in that area - you have to think this is a problem other places too. Even if Hinshaw was just following Dooley's mandated recruiting strategy, it seems like a change has to be made at recruiting coordinator to send a message to these schools that there is a new regime and show that we plan on rebuilding these relationships.

  • Just freaking sad, what a waste or 3 years.

  • I'm flabbergasted.

To the poster who said there's not a lot of talent in the Chattanoiga area. You're right but does that mean we should just hand it over to Georgia and Bama? They apparently are recruiting there.

And when a nice recruit does come down the line then it helps.

It looks like we're on the verge of losing Von Bell. If we had a good pipeline in place, I bet Bell would have committed a year ago. The boy has always bled orange and I was always baffled by the wait and see approach. Now my only hope is he was waiting and seeing to see if Dooley would get fired and wants to see the new coach.

The new coach has some ground to make up.

  • Thank goodness UT is moving in a new direction. I welcome the new staff, and I'm sure the local area talent will as well.

  • I knew Dooley's rep. in Memphis was bad among HS coaches there, but I dismissed it as him not being willing to offer the $ame $ort of $timulus package$ that other$ were, but there's just no excuse for any UT coach to have a bad in-state rep. in middle and east-TN.

I am guessing you are the down vote. I live here and have my whole life. I played at Red Bank and the talent in Chattanooga isn't that great. I have said for years that more kids should play somewhere from here but for coaches to come out and say we don't see them here weekly I don't blame the staff it would be a waste. This whole stuff about letters being sent those are sent out all across the country and Saban probably has nothing to do with it. He signs his name to one letter that gets printed and sent all over. Now if these coaches are saying that right and Saban show up all the time this would be different. So to be flabbergasted and down vote is your right but sad you felt so strongly to down vote and report. Gotta love these boards take the good with the bad.

Told ya'll the denial on this board was deep and I see it is still running strong.

Those coaches said they didn't even know who was the recruiter for Tennessee was for their area. They aren't saying Dooley didnt come see them enough they are saying nobody from UT ever came or called them period.

I know that the letters are sent all over the country but I can tell you this I never received a letter from dooley and while most of the time I never brought it up to my players I did post it on our board for the players to see. And it meant a lot to 14 - 18 year old kids for the head coach of a big time program to wish them luck even if a grad asst sent it. We played in the state champ game a few years back and we got a very detailed letter from saban noting some of our biggest wins of the year so yea its a really big deal to me and my staff and players.

I didn't down vote you. I don't down vote anyone.

And if you downvoted me in what you thought was retaliation then that's extremely childish.

And if you read my post, I agree with you there's not a lot of talent. I just have a difference in opinion on whether you should just give your backyard up.

That's another reason why Saban is where he is at and Dooley is where he is at

    gwbask

  • Derek Dooley is not a good football coach. At this point we all know that, even if Wes continues to pretend like the guy may develop into one in the future. He's just not built for it. He doesn't connect with his players, he panics under pressure, and he's just a doofus in general.

    JPSke

  • First off, Saban isn't faxing anyone. His secretary may be faxing the teams, but he isn't. He hates interacting with anyone.

And I believe Jay Graham has some responsibility in recruiting in TN. I know he took up parts of Baggett's areas when he came on board, and supposedly he was used in the Nashville area to help recruit some kids as well as in Memphis. Are you all going to belittle Jay Graham if it's his responsibility? Should he go if he was one of the main recruiters for TN kids?

I think with the change in Dooley's staff he may have wrongly decided that he had to win first and then redevelop relationships second. If he didn't win, it would not matter anyways as he would be out. We all knew this year was a wait and see what happens in terms of signing the top recruits on our board.

If Dooley won that Florida game and added a Georgia or South Carolina, then these coaches would not be singing the same tune. And honestly, only 37 out of a Tri State area are complaining? How many schools are in that area?

People with bad experiences are always the loudest at first. You are more likely to complain about something you don't like than you are to praise something you do. It's just human nature.

With all that said, Dooley definitely had his faults and I'm not trying to overlook that. I'm just not outraged by the article.
