Poor recruiting tactics used during Dooley's tenure

First off, Saban isn't faxing anyone. His secretary may be faxing the teams, but he isn't. He hates interacting with anyone.

I think with the change in Dooley's staff he may have wrongly decided that he had to win first and then redevelop relationships second. If he didn't win, it would not matter anyways as he would be out. We all knew this year was a wait and see what happens in terms of signing the top recruits on our board.

People with bad experiences are always the loudest at first. You are more likely to complain about something you don't like than you are to praise something you do. It's just human nature.

With all that said, Dooley definitely had his faults and I'm not trying to overlook that. I'm just not outraged by the article.

I agree with a lot of this post. For one, Saban probably has never faxed a letter. Ever. Lol

TN has to recruit nationally and Dooley has been behind every since he was hired 2 weeks before signing day. I don't see fault in how they prioritized their resources when it came to recruiting. The massive overhaul of staff after last year certainly hurt efforts to build traction in this area ( granted Dooley was a catalyst in causing these changes and certainly accountable for them).

It does not surprise me to hear accounts of Dooley being arrogant and condescending. But I've heard so many tales of how good he can be recruiting that I question an article that only points out the bad. And comparing TN in the state it has been in to such stable programs as Georgia and Alabama, etc is hardly fair. Again, not trying to defend Dooley. But I'm also not outraged by this article.

We always needed a few women on board to be the voices of reason... +1

Just...disappointed. No excuse for not making the Tennessee kids a priority. +1 for the find wb.

No excuse other, perhaps, than the majority of them are not SEC caliber players. The fact of the matter is that UT coaches must work their asses off to recruit nationally competing against the best teams in the country. And this program was left I such a mess from Fulmer and Kiffin that perhaps the coaches simply had to make a call not to focus in investing a bunch of time in areas where there simply was no benefit to be derived. I am not defending Dooley or his practices here - the dude was an arrogant prig most of the time. but there are an awful lot of conclusions being drawn based on one article published in a publication I have never even heard of.

I'm guessing you off set my ridiculous downvote. Glad I'm not the only one who saw it that way.

Plus the new staff had inroads in other places we used to own like Jersey, Maryland, and the Carolinas. We pulled a lot of talent from those areas during our glory days. The staff will go where they know they have the best shot at the best talent.

Now that last sentence doesn't mean to neglect TN. We should never do that, but last season was last season and Dooley's decisions have landed him where he is now, no longer HC at UT.

    +1 to ya

haha, another downvote for nothing!!!! For someone who doesn't post much, I've evidently made an enemy biggrin

I wasn't promoting taking less talented TN kids over more talented out of state kids. But if you burn bridges with the home state you will miss out on the elites that do arise. I realize this is just one article and I'm not bashing Dooley. But while 37 coaches does not constitute an majority, it does raise some concerns. But your points are taken. It's not alway black and white. Here's hoping the new Coaching Staff never lets a great TN kid leave the state. GO VOLS!
