  • I know there has been a lot of talk about who the next HC is and rightfully so. However, I want to switch it up for a minute if you don't mind. Are there any assistants the UT faithful really want to see in Rocky Top? I would imagine Tee Martin makes the list. He's been a very good recruiter for USC and the USC train is derailing quickly. Also, I keep thinking about Trooper Taylor at Auburn. He has been at UT before (correct me if I'm wrong please) and was an ace recruiter then too. Who do you want the next HC to keep off the current staff?

    Do you not see Martin or Trooper as an upgrade over Hinshaw? Just curious.

  • Tee would be a fan favorite for sure. Not sure yet how he is as a position coach but he should be able to recruit to Knoxville like nobody's business. I would love to see him back yesterday.

    Trooper carries too much baggage. He is apparently the focus of an NCAA investigation right now and TN fans have mixed feelings about him. I personally hope he stays away. Far, far away. Well out of towel waving range.

  • Trooper is gonna be in deep stuff with the Auburn scandal. I don't really know the whole situation behind that, but I do know that he is somehow involved. Tee would be a good fit I think, and I hope Jay Graham stays on staff as well. Beyond that though, I think there's just too many guys available to a head coach to really say who I'd want. A lot of it also falls on the philosophy of the head coach.

    JMO, but Trooper is MUCH too toxic right now for our program to take a chance on. I think Auburn is on the verge of burning...a lot of yahoo smoke is NEVER a good thing.

  • Agree with the majority here and would love to see Graham and Pittman retained. Would also like to see Tee Martin get an opportunity to come home. In regard to Trooper Taylor, I am somewhat uncomfortable with the NCAA rumors swirling around him.

    One long-shot that intrigues me is Lance Thompson. If Tennessee hires a defensive minded coach like Strong, I would like to see Thompson return to the Hill. I can't help but wonder how this year would have played out if Dooley had named Thompson DC instead of bringing in Sunseri . . . .

  • Jay and Pittman should stay IMO.

    I do not understand the Hinshaw love from some of our fans. WR coaching is hardly a strength (Hunters hands got worse, CP did not improve as a route runner at all) and recruiting had been a mixed bag (very good evaluations, consistent feedback from recruits about miscommunication or UT not showing up, inability to pull elite talent.)

    Tee would be great. Trooper just got taken off the road again at Auburn, we can't afford that.

  • A lot of the same thoughts there. Haha. So Trooper is a big NO! As a fan of the old-school UT teams, I would LOVE to see Tee Martin back in Knoxville. Him being at USC makes me sick to my stomach.

    So has Martin...see Jalen Ramsey/Randall Cobb
    Not to mention before the year who would have traded hunter and Patterson for lee and woods? I wouldn't have...but those two are CLEARLY better WR (not just crazy athletic plays)

  • Tee's affiliation with UT and his success is a huge sell IMO. He can tell kids about winning a NC at UT and how the new staff is putting the pieces in place to do it again and I think he's still young enough he can really relate to the kids. A home-run assistant IMO.
