Question for W/R/K or any high standing member

  • I wasn't a member of any message boards or anything like that during any of the other coach searches. So I have no idea how it was the last time there were Grumors. My question is, was it like this? Were there 100 different rumors with 100 different sources, some of them actually halfway believable? I was under the impression that it fell through pretty quick or it was known pretty quick that it just wasn't going to happen. I mean, has it gone to a whole new level this time? Hope all that made sense huh

  • I would say this coaching search has had more rumors, by far, than any other search I've seen, but this is also probably the most important hire ever to be made in program history. A swing and a miss here, will set the program back for a long time. Though the night Kiffin left was epic to say the least....biggrin

The night Kiffin left was my first visit to a message board. I remember getting off of work at 8pm and turning on espn when I got home. They were saying he had left. There is no kind of UT news in NC or very little. I was running around desperate for info. I googled Knoxville and found the KNS website, govolsxtra. I honestly had no idea message boards existed. Guess I am, were, behind the times. Anyways last year I came here to get away from the infinite amount of trolling on gvx. This is the greatest place EVER! Way to many threads to even begin to look at them all right now. This place is crazy. I guess I fit in. GO VOLS!

  • In all honesty, what we saw following both Fulmer and Kiffin's departure was more akin to the DC search last year - there were tons of rumors and the staff on TOS (247 wasn't around then) were running around trying to corroborate/deny as many as possible. Part of that was due to the fact that Hamilton was in charge and wasn't the most methodical when it came to searches. Believe it or not, the Gruden rumors were actually more out of control when Fulmer was fired than they are now - that might be due in part to people taking a "wait and see" approach this time around.

The vast majority of the rumors this time have centered on Gruden, whereas in the past there seemed to be a "coach of the day" thing going where a different coach was the favorite each day. What has been discussed in regards to other coaches really hasn't been any more detailed than the Gruden rumors, although that could change as this search goes on.

  • Thanks for the replies, guys. I was hopin whats goin on now was so much bigger than the last time/where there's a lot more smoke, there must be a fire this time. Ah, I've got to let it go before I lose my mind. I want Gruden, but I will support whoever they get. I really think Hart will do the best he possible can. I would just prefer someone from the NFL. I've said it several times, I'm really interested with what Roman has done in his career. If we have to actually take a chance on someone, I'd prefer it be him. Sick of Bama people, so I don't want Smart. Don't really know much about Fedora. Don't want Golden. And I know most everyone disagrees, but I don't want Strong either. Eh, like I said I will stand behind whoever they get, just might take me a few days to get there GO vols

I think your right and I also think alot of this now is stemming from the simple fact that AD MH wasn't quiet about his search. He told the people who he was going after and that's how people knew he settled for his 15th person on his list. Thus, people saying UT is not a desirable job anymore.
AD DH is tight lipped and everyone is making up stuff because they don't know much.

Here's the simplest way to explain the difference: Mike Hamilton would be a TERRIBLE poker player, because you could read his mind from a mile away. Dave Hart would be hell to play against, because you won't know what he's holding until the last card hits the table...
