Ranking SEC uniforms

  • A UT athletic employee once told me their challenge isn't figuring out which shade of orange to use; the problem is that UT orange looks different depending on the surface it's on. The same shade of orange may look lighter on a helmet than it does on a jersey, or vice versa.

Random fact many with UT-decorated houses may know: UT orange is PMS 151.

Always thought LSU had some of the best uniforms in the country. Other than the Vols obviously.

    I agree:

The orange is a different shade of orange on the new tech fit or whatever they call it uniforms. It is a lighter color. I know this because I do photography at Neyland. It is hard to notice Until you put the two side by side but when you do it is obvious! I love our orange don't get me wrong! The helmet is actually closer to the right color since we introduced the new style unis. Look back at some photos and you will see what I am talking about. Go Vols!!

    Always good to clarify...

Like Wes said...it's not necesarily that the shade changed, it just looks way different on different materials. Techfit shows the same color orange different than the previous jersey did...thats why a cotton UT will never be the exact same color as the jerseys, its just too hard too match colors on different materials

  • Tennessee is synonymous (sp?) with ORANGE. So I object to all-whites or other variations that minimize orange such as the Fulmer-era stripeless pants. Don't even get me started on black. Anyone channel surfing should know at a glance that they've encountered the Big Orange.

In fairness, we can't criticize the Florida orange even if it is a different shade. It's the stupid double outlining of their numbers that I think detracts the most from their look. Plus, a lot of both blue and orange is not a good look.

I appreciate the traditionalists that have commented. We don't need Nike bastardizing the tradition of any more historic programs. But aside from the helmet numerals (cool) there isn't much that differentiates Alabama from other simplistic red/white programs such as Nebraska, Wisconsin and Stanford. They're getting ranked way too high.

If I must cast my lot among our competitors' uniforms, I'll go with Georgia, Missouri, and Mississippi based on classic logos and color combinations.
