  • Disappointing again. We had a chance. Coaching is the difference.

  • It's really frustrating being a Tennessee fan! Very disappointing loss. Not looking forward to another loss next week!

  • What is the realistic chance Dooley is gone this year assuming he goes 4-2? Certainly he's gone if he goes 3-3 or worse, right?

  • We had to beat Florida...we didn't beat Florida. We had to beat Mississippi State...we didn't beat Mississippi State. Plain and simple, this team can't win the games it has to win. Whether it's coaching or not, something has to change. Because now, who are we going to beat? Missouri? Vandy? That's not going to cut it. Dooley is out of opportunities, at least for 2012. I'm not going to be one to speculate on Dooley's job security, but Dave Hart is probably sweating buckets right now.

  • Bray in the first half went for the long ball instead of the first down.

    Charlie And

  • We need to fire Dooley and hire Mullen.

There's a chance we'd play someone decent in a bowl. Thing is, we seem to be able to handle decent out-of-conference teams -- just not anyone mediocre or better in our own conference.

  • This game was a roller-coaster like the GA game, only it wasn't really a shoot-out. With GA I felt proud we'd fought for 4 quarters and showed progress in the running game. In this game, I was sick in the first half and sick in the last 4 minutes.

We're not a good enough team to overcome the kind of slop we played in the first half on special teams & D.

    ericstubb

  • Not seeing progress.

    Rab44

  • We have a 50 50 chance for a bowl game this year. Missouri could sneak up on us and Vandy had look forward to playing us all year.

    Charlie And

  • Bingo. We can win out of the conference, but in the SEC... (where it really matters) nothing.

  • Ive supported Dooley for 3 years but now im done. This team has talent but Dooley cant coach it.Switching to the 3/4 defense in such an important year with it probably being most our skilled position playmakers last year was a horrible coaching decision and its probably costed Dooley his job.

  • Hire Mullen.

    Charlie And

  • I really wonder if Dooley going to a 3-4 D _and_ a completely new defensive coaching staff in the same year weren't a bridge too far. Sunseri has the same players as Wilcox had last year (and better in some cases) and they're a year faster, stronger & more experienced. We adjusted against NC St & early against FL but couldn't get contain against GA and looked completely confused with Miss St's formation changes in the first half. We no longer have 6 freshmen playing on D, but we seem get lost on some pretty fundamental stuff.

And I suspect the reason we can win out of conference is the talent difference we have over many non-SEC teams, which comes from top recruits simply wanting to play in the SEC. When the talent is more evenly matched, we get lose.

I don't think Missouri will beat us. As bad as we are, they're even worse. Especially if their QB is still hurt come November. As for Vandy, you've got a point there. I am REALLY not looking forward to that one.

Again, bingo. And that falls solely and directly on coaching. No question about it,

  • I am not attacking Derek Dooley. I actually kind of like the guy. But I think this loss will lead to his ouster, barring a miracle upset against Alabama or South Carolina. I am not saying we should fire him, but I believe we will.

    McMinnVol

  • Miss S will loose to Alabama and LSU and maybe Arkansas later. so we can't compete with the SEC or a middle level team in the SE west. Progress. I say no.

It's tempting to agree with you.

I've heard Dooley called a good guy, someone who gets class players and a smart guy on here. I also think that like his QB, Dooley's a risk-taker. He gave up a lucrative law career to become a football coach. ( ! ) Then he had to be a risk taker at La. Tech, and he had to be in his first 2 seasons at TN, having less talent than other SEC teams. It almost won him an upset at LSU in '10.

I'm still questioning if the 3-4 switch & 100% turnover in defensive coaching staff won't be his Achilles this year. With a 4-3 this year, maybe hold GA (enough) and we're not bumfuzzled at Miss St.

If Dooley survives this year (which he may), then those who wanted him gone might be surprised next year as players finally understand the 3-4, Dooley has a roster of more mature upper-classmen, a Sr OL and speed in our secondary. If Dooley gets axed, his replacement would inherit a night-and-day different situation from the one Dooley (and maybe Kiffin) inherited as far as talent & depth go. If he won with Dooley's players, he might get many of the kudo's Dooley himself really deserved.

  • We lost the game with the lost kick off and the fumble by Young IMO....otherwise we outplayed them

    dsmith1669

  • One more note. Devin Moore is a fan favorite, but he his not an Sec back. Too light. Tonight proved it . The fumble killed us.

    Charlie And

  • I didn't understand the two 3 and short 40yard throws in the 1st half -
