It's the new rookie wage scale that is driving this. It's just like the NBA. The key is to get through your rookie contract - which is subject to pay restrictions - and get to the big money free agent contract. If you are good enough for the League then you should get there as soon as possible. The difference in the rookie pay scale has been reduced so much that it's really not worth it financially to stay in college. This will be a growing trend.
I saw an interesting stat (can't remember specifics) of number of underclassmen in the draft last year who got drafted vs those undrafted. I imagine the percentage of of undrafted will ballon this year since more underclassmen are entering. I agree with RunThruThe T but that approach only works if you actually get drafted or make a roster.
