  • I like Jones, I believe he has a bright future ahead of him.

I am just curious of one thing. During his press conference he stated that he would put together the best coaching staff in the country. If this is true, then why bring in his old OC and DC?

Surely he doesn't believe they're the "best" in the country. I am not against him bringing them in, i'm just saying it's contradictory in a way of his statements during the presser.

To be perfectly honest, I don't know much about the spread. We didn't use that in highschool. I was LB, never played against the spread either. So I am a little un-easy.

I know Jones is a good coach. I am just interested to see the staff he puts together that UT.

We ran a version of the spread this year and did pretty well. Usually set up for a mobile quarterback and tries to get your speed in space and in one on one matchups against defenders. See Urban Meyer for the typical "spread" offense.

It's possible and I've heard this from several posters as well that his coordinators will be coming in as position coaches which will leave him still needing to find the best OC/DC possible. He's worked with a lot of his assistants for years and feels comfortable w them. And from what I've read they're very loyal to him as well which would make a easy transition to a different position. Idk. All speculation to this point. Just what I've read and thinking. VFL!

Yeah, I'm familiar with Meyers' spread, Chizik, Kelly, and many more. I watched butch score what was it? almost 30 points on us last year. I don't dipute it's effectivness.

I figured it was more of an athelete for QB though. Tebows, Newtons,RG3's, Johnny "Football" god i hate that name... Manziel....

I'm not quite sure we're ready for that. I think peterman ran some spread in HS.

I'm just interested to see how it turns out.

    Thanks for your response :)

  • Peterman was heavily recruited by CBJ while he was at Cincy. Think he's a good fit for the offense.

Well he has also ran his offense with less mobile quarterbacks such as Collaros (sp?). He was actually the quarterback when we played them last year.

  • Ryan,

Haven't seen much on current player reaction... any feedback (positive or negative) from current players? Granted, I'm currently in the Dominican, so it's been hard to get internet access (in case something has been posted).

    Thanks!

  • Iam getting the feeling we are going to lose Paul Harris especially with Hinshaw gone!!Oregon and Gamecocks have been all over this kid lately

  • I knew the basics of the spread, but having Jones as our head coach I've been trying to do some research on it's specifics. Also learning about all the plays you can run under the formation. I also wanted to know all the cons.

Half the PAC-12 runs the spread so I found a lot of good videos and talked with a few of my old highschool coaches about it.

Here is a video that really breaks it down.
