Ryan - D. Green - what's up with his silence?

  • I always take it as a pretty bad sign when a recruits stops talking to the Tenn sites. Seems like he's not really talking too many people right now, but he did talk to a Miami site a few days ago I believe.

He retwitted a picture someone created by adding his head to a tenn jersey yesterday. He also retwitted a picture of him in the Micheeeegan lockerroom with a Micheeegan jersey on.

    What say you?

  • Also seen that he tweeted he ran a 4.3 yesterday sick

    yes, at 218lbs.

If Alabama can have 7 five star running backs, it should be fair that we can have at least 1.

Perhaps he is trying to enjoy the holidays and his vacation from school with his friends and family. Remember this will be the last extended vacation he gets since he will enroll in school this summer.

  • i will state the obvious. we could REALLY use Green. Not meaning to offend any of our current RB's, and I think Q could potentially be something special, but Green seems like cant miss. Speed, size, etc.. Been too long since we have signed an elite tailback...

  • I really want Green, obviously, but on his twitter profile said something like Gods gift to football.. Anyone else find this concerning along with his up and down recruitment? I fear he might be a drama queen.

  • Watching the Cincy game last night...found myself thinking Winn=Green in that offense.

  • Personally I think he probably enjoys the fact that we are all talking about him. I'm sure some recruits realize how important they are to fan bases, especially in the era of social media. He still is probably weighing his options, I wouldn't worry too much.

  • Don't get me wrong, I want Derrick Green. I think he is going to be a great college and probably pro RB. But in my opinion, we are going to have a pretty good run game next year as it is. Almost the enitre offensive line is back, and Neal and Lane are coming back a year stronger, faster, and smarter. Lane made some impressive strides towards the end of the season and I think he has a lot of potential. And IMO, Neal is an NFL caliber RB. He battled some nagging injuries this past season but looked really solid in the first few weeks. I've also heard his workout numbers are ridiculous. I wouldn't be surprised if he has a breakout season next year. All that being said, it would still be great to have D. Green as a contributor in the backfield next season. Sky's the limit for him after that.

  • I really, really hate to say anything negative about our current backs, but you can't avoid the obvious. Despite one of the best offensive lines in the SEC, did we break one truly long run this past year? Even more to the point, how often did one of our backs break a tackle? It NEVER happened in 2011, and at least it happened on a few occasions last year. But it still didn't happen very often. To be blunt, I remain unconvinced that we have an NFL-caliber back on our roster.

That means we really need a guy of Green's caliber. We're losing a lot of offensive production in the passing game and it would really help to have an elite back who step in as a freshman and pick up a lot of that slack.

(EDIT: After posting, I figured I ought to actually check the stats rather than rely on my memory. Lane had a long run of 45, and Neal had one for 29. Those aren't terrible, but how many 70+ yard runs did our defense give up? And on our longest runs, I distinctly remember on more than one occasion our back being caught from behind, which never happened when we had a truly elite runner.)

I really don't have that concern... I mean, from his stand point as a high school kid, he may very well believe that he is "Gods Gift to Football". But he is just a high school kid at this point. Also, I think his silence is the exact opposite of drama. He could be just taking time to make the right choice for him, or as another poster pointed out, just enjoying his freedom. +1 though
