Ryan/Kevin/Wes...Gotta question for you

  • I was having a debate with an Ohio State fan yesterday regarding recruiting and was wondering if you could clear something up for me.
He believes that the SEC is the only conference that can offer scholarships when they MAY not be available. For example, if UT actually signed the allowable 27 this year they would have had to have some attrition from the current roster by a certain date....I believe when the fall semester starts. His position was that all other schools can only give scholarships if it is known on NSD that the scholarship would be available (open spots, juniors declaring for the draft, and seniors) and if there is any attrition over the summer that team will just have less than 85 players. Hope I explained that correctly!

For the record, we were not discussing Ohio State....we were discussing USC's class.

Do you know the answer to this one?

I get what you're saying. You're not talking about oversigning, your talking about the 85 max scholarship limit....right?

Like lets say UT has 85 ppl on scholly, and lose a total of 20 via graduation and declaration for the NFL draft. so, that means that come NSD, there's 65 players on scholarship and 20 open slots on the roster. You're asking if they could then sign 25 people for a full class, knowing that come Aug 1 there will be some guys that leave/get asked to leave.

I do not know the answer, but wanted to clarify that that's what you're asking
