SEC Solidarity Makes No Sense

  • Ever since I was a little kid watching UT football for the first time I learned time and time again you don't cheer for your rivals. The only time my dad and us didnt cheer that way was when Florida played Ohio State in the national title in 2006 and we were happy to see Florida take them out to the woodshed. Ohio State thought they were high and mighty and unbeatable and Florida smacked them around. However under any other circumstances I won't cheer for the conference. Tennessee gets no benefit from Alabama putting another banner up. I don't understand "conference pride". I like knowing Tennessee plays in the best conference in the nation but I would never cheer for any of the rivals I hate.

The sloppy seconds theory of recruiting. No self respect.

It's not sloppy seconds in recruiting. It's about maintaining as large a recruiting pool as possible. It's about signing an Eric Ainge from Oregon or some of the players we've had from across the nation as far away as Hawaii and even Germany. You folks are fixating on Bama in this argument. It's not about Bama. It's about a strong SEC brand that makes every team in the SEC more competitive nationally.

Everything I have seen since Coach Jones was hired leads me to believe he knows what needs to be done both regionally and nationally to bring TN back to parity with the upper echelon teams in the SEC. As that happens we will most definitely not be settling for anybody's sloppy seconds!

  • Bottom line is, I'd rather see ANY team beat ND, and if it is an SEC team I like that even better.
It may not really do us any good for one of our conference foes wins but I stand with the folks that believe any victory for our conference against outsiders only proves we are a part of the best. We may not be at the top of the heap right now but we have always been a leader in the conference and will come back.
So yes, SEC, SEC, SEC sounds a hell of a lot better to me that Catholics, Catholics, Catholics! Let the Cousins whip their butts!

  • For me, its quite simple...

Southeastern conference dominance = more valuable TV contracts = more money for UT.

However, I never root for Bama.

  • Alabama losing isn't going to affect tv money.

Tennessee may benefit financially from tv money resulting from this BCS dominance over the las t 6-7 seven years, but our actual on field product clearly has suffered from all of our major competitors being successful.

I will never root for Bama, Florida, Georgia, Auburn, or Vanderbilt to win any game. Especially not a championship.

Unless they're playing Ohio State. It's miserable listening to the Urban worship up here.
