Santos 'lost' but 'still a Vol'

  • i think if sunseri will go and tell him that they are gonna run mainly the 3-4, and that he will get an chance to impact the D, he will be solid

  • Hopefully santos will stick with the vols ,we need him we got to build some depth on defense, but dalton has to do what is best for him and his future.i do believe his future is with the vols he can make a impact right away.i can see where he is mixed up,confused you have coaches, players, fans, family and friends pulling you this way and that way telling you should do this,go here.but i believe its ok to like the coaches or what not but you have to look beyond that look at the school, tradition and what it means to play or attend a certain school.i know that we will not compete for a national title next year but its what we are building for and he can be a part of that yes we have a uphill climb just being honest ,but i think this team is headed the right direction .no matter daltons choice i will respect it and so should everyone else

Well written VolsJoe ;There are those of us who have been VOL fans for 50+ years and we have been shaken by all the numerous staff chance over the last 4 years. It tugs at your heart and makes you wonder why everyone doesn't feel about our program the way we do. But the sad truth Dalton is that college coaching is a business to most people and when a higher paying job becomes available, they usually move on. I hope and pray you make this difficult decision based upon what is best for you. Many of us VOL fans want you to become a VFL because you are a fine person who can help the program succeed. You will be asset whenever you go so make that decision based upon the program and your love of it.

We'll be fine with or without Santos. Would love to have him though.

What happened to being in love with Knoxville, and knowing it was where he wanted to be? You commit to a program, not a coach. If he really thought Sirmon was going to be his position coach for 4-5 years, then he and his family weren't doing their research. Position coaches move around a lot, and Sirmon's move to another program was somewhat expected, as he was highly regarded.

You can't be serious. We need this guy.I have faith in Coach Sunseri to get 'er done though.

You don't we can make it without this kid? Because that is basically what the previous poster said.

I would like to get him but at some point you wonder if some of these guys are worth the effort. There are plenty of good players that want to play LB at UT. Give me a break.

On a side note, I agree the turnover is extreme. Dooley needs to get a stable staff together, which he has yet to do.

  • I understand it is a big decision for any 18 year old to make. And you want to be sure. Relationships are important, unfortunately for these young men they find out this is also a business. Planning on where to go as an athlete should be 60% school(academics, facilities, etc.) and 40% coaching. Most won't go to the next level and will need their education. A few like Santos will and will need both. Come on Santos, this is home with or without Sirmon. Your a Vol4Life. Its going to be a special 2012 season.

  • Can't say I really blame him. It must seem like things are very unstable right now in Knoxville. Hopefully, he can build a good level of trust with the coaches this week. He's the kind of player that we need on board.

it would be great to get a couple more of these coaches in house before the NSD as i am sure he wants to know who will be coaching him stating next year

  • I disagree with those who are either making fun of/criticizing Santos or saying his commit to us is of little consequence. First, he's an 18(?) year old kid making one of the biggest decisions of his life so far. Cut him a little slack. Would you take a job with a great company without even knowing who your boss was going to be?

Second, it's true UT football will go on with or without Santos, and we have a good recruiting class. But our program's at a pivotal juncture right now, too, and we need all the guys we can get of his talent & skill level. He's an important part of this class as it now stands.

I really hope he signs with us. I think Tennessee does have a strong tradition and we'll have a good program -- and he could be an important part of that. We need him. But regardless of what he chooses, I wish him all the best.

  • Please don't take this as a putdown on Santos or any other kid. But does anyone else feel that these young men have been given too much of a national stage in making their college choices? During the UnderArmour game- sitting on a couch on the sideline with a nationwide audience hanging on your every word. Same with other HIgh School All American games. And press conferences dedicated just to a senior announcing his college choice. And with all the technology now, ie twitter, facebook, etc. there's just no limit to how much hoopla is created. Maybe I've just been passed by with all of this but I long for a simpler time when the school had a little more clout that the recruit. With that being said, I hope our coaching staff can make this young man feel comfortable about his decision to be a Vol. Tennessee will prevail regardless of Santos' or any other recruits' decisions because ultimately, UT is bigger than any one person. Orange is a way of life! GO VOLS!

BUTCH IS NOT FOR THE FAINT OF HEART. GO VOLS!

I hope he sticks. He's not as important now with the move to a 3-4 but good kid and 4 year player.

Wouldn't he be more important in a 3-4? He and McNeal establish a presence in Texas. An area we used to get a lot of players from.
