Scenario for Rogers Situation

  • If Da'Rick was to get booted off the team sometime before or after spring practice, how do you think we change the rotation and how much of a production drop off do we see?

I think we will struggle mightily to compete against a secondary like Alabama or Georgia's. He valuable at worst as a distraction for teams to spend a couple of defenders on.

Without Da'rick, we have Justin Hunter and Cordarrelle Patterson as the proven route runners that will demand one man with help. After that we don't have that much proven depth. Zack Rogers has shown he can break through every now and then, but not enough for teams to scheme for him. Pig Howard won't know the playbook well enough and neither will Croom or Bowles. They will only be able to run basic routes which are easy for an experienced defense to stop.

On the positive side of the argument, Justin and Da'Rick did well enough by themselves at the beginning of this past season, and Cordarrelle is already at the level of Da'Rick. I really hope our recievers can develop good depth for the season after next. If Patterson and Hunter leave, we will be left with just this incoming class of freshman and Vincent Dallas. Scary thought.

U are assuming alot. Every pro scout that i have heard says WR is the easiest position to translate to in the nfl. While college and nfl are two different leagues dont count out these freshman learning the offense quick enough. I dont think u are giving these guys enough credit. Dont know this for sure but i bet they already have play books and can be learning the system now.

I wouldn't expect much out of any of those guys. Neal and Young will have a lot more offensive impact on the field than those two.

  • Yes Da'Rick is explosive and really good, but the other receivers will produce this year. Two of the 4 recruits will emerge and contribute. If Rodgers can't change, kick him out. Last year he was a necessity and this year he is a luxury. I've been part of a team that this crap was tolerated and in the long run your better as a team without attitude.

  • This is how i feel about the problems with Da'Rick, the high expectations everyone has for Patterson, and Hunter's rehab.....

As of right now, Da'Rick is still on the team.... I won't worry or speculate until he gets kicked off, until that point I plan on him being on the active roster this fall...

And in terms of Patterson, he does not have a lot of proven playmakers to compete with for the 3 spot.... So I plan on him seeing the field a lot this year..... Yes, this an assumption based off of his film..... But I just don't see Zach Rogers being a better player and playmaker then an athlete the caliber of Pattersn......

I am also assuming Hunter will recover 100% by the start of the season.....

As of today that leaves us with a 3 Deep of Hunter, Rogers, and Patterson...... I won't speculate beyond that until i see other developments in Hunter's rehab, Roger's overall attitude, and Patterson's hype.......

With that said, I would like to ask everyone the following question....

Assuming our top 3 WRs are Hunter, Rogers, and Patterson (this would require a 100% recovery of Hunter, Rogers stays out of trouble and stops being a distraction, and Patterson lives up to his expectations), who plays in the slot in 3 WR sets?????

Hunter obviously stays on the outside, IMO..... That leaves either Rogers or Patterson in the slot..... I think Rogers would do really well in that spot and be tough for Defenses to cover.... what does everyone else think about this scenario....

I mean this would be totally ideal and freakin' awesome. I hope we're able to get to that point.

I was thinking more objectively just to see what everyone was thinking.

I think Patterson would probably be the other wide guy, with Rogers playing slot since he is able to run his routes so crisply. He just really needs to work on his hand strength. Way too many dropped balls. Maybe it was more mental than physical, but regardless.

I think they plan to play Rogers in the slot in the 3 WR sets if he is here

info on? Rogers in slot? Rogers playing? Rogers being around??

Assuming CP gets in and is here and assuming DR can figure out how to be a good team mate, I think they want 21 in slot.. seems to be the best alignment. Also assumes 11 is ready to go....

3 studs at WRs and we are waiting on word on these assumptions. Might end up a long summer....

    Notes:

I'm not hearing negative vibes on the above but there is possibilities on all 3 scenarios, 21 not being here, 11 not being 100% in fall and CP, like all summer time Juco's, has to get eligible.

  • My inquiry was more about whether he's going to be kicked off. Thanks for the response! + 1
