  • Well it's our biggest weakness IMO on defense. The 3rd and 26 was one of the most pathetic plays I've seen by a defense. The defensive call by Sunseri a single high safety is stupid. Next AJ Johnson, biting on a double move, he is just terrible in coverage. Third is how slow Byron Moore closes on the ball. 4th is the tackling display by both Moore and Coleman, PATHETIC. Not to mention Rory Anderson, the guy who caught it, we recruited over. That sure looks good now with our TE depth....

    So why does this re-occur...

    1. Coaching/Scheme
    2. Safety Closing Speed
    3. Linebackers to slow to run with players.

Now that we've validated the weaknesses on defense over the last four games, there won't be much guessing what the next four opponents will throw at us. Troy, Vandy and Mizzou won't have any trouble scoring on our defense. If I'm the play-caller on those teams, I've already got my game plan written.

  • Yeah I have the same thoughts and questions. We have a huge hole in our defense over the middle plus we cannot seal the ends. You'd think with 2 DEs and two wide LBs we could close off the ends. Anyone with knowledge of the 3-4 have any info? It looks like a competition of 11 on 7 out there. I'd throw short slants and crossing plays and I'd run at our ends.

That was a straight Fun 'n Gun play that SOS has been running for 20 years. It is meant to attack the safeties and whenever a Spurrier team goes 2x2 you better have at least 2 deep. You're right Drizzle, it's stupid and inexcusable.
