  • One of the most promising things I've seen from Young, aside from his kick returns, is his willingness to delve into sure tackles. On that little pitch-toss against LSU, he had a wide shot at the sideline, however he turned back to midfield again, with lots of defenders surrounding him. Even as a freshmen he was willing to take some potential shots from an intimidating defense. Has great field visions and so far, has great ball control, no fumbling issues. Something is often overlooked in backs.

Can't wait to watch him as a sophomore. Keep representing your hometown young man!

  • Although the concerns remain pertaining to size, one cud see in HS the young man is gifted. With a year of S&C under his belt and the experience of playing SEC style FB (and getting his "bell rung") I believe he's developing into a special "weapon" the Vols will use.. The incoming class that includes Howard AND Watson also adds some depth and speed to the team that may allow Devrin less "getting knocked cuckoo" moments and keep him healthy.. This kid was a "stud" in HS and had some unbelievable runs. Glad he's a Vol.

  • My only "BIG" worry moment with DY came against Bama when he took a monster hit. I liked that he played through the rest of the season, but that hit seemed to set him back just a little. I would think with a year in the strength program, along with working with CJG, he is about to show us something special.

  • The most important thing he has is his work ethic and his attitude. We need more players with the work ethic to get better every day and the attitude to do whatever they can to help us win. Sounds simple but it is what we need to get over the hump.

  • Excited about this kid's potential!

  • Wes: Do you see Devrin and Howard competing for the same playing time or does the staff intend to use them differently? just curious. I met DY once last year and he is a very likeable young man. Hope he really breaks out this Fall with a great year.

  • Will be interesting to see if Devrin is even faster this year after a year of conditioning.
Doubt Pig will be able to supplant him because of the foot injury.

  • You got to love Devrin's drive and team-first attitude. I'm excited to see him continue to prove his critics wrong. It is worth pointing out that many of the same criticisms about Devrin have been redirected toward current 2013 WR commit, Josh Smith.

  • I think he will surprise some folks this year with some big plays.

  • Been excited about this young man, since day one.I concur with Tiny, there is just something about him.You just feel like when he is back deep receiving kicks, that he is going to do something electrifying!Be cool if he took the opening kickoff of the season to the house!GBO

I think Dooley is right that he will be very effective as a change of pace RB. When you add in his return skills he is as valuable as almost anyone on the offense. Thanks and +1

  • devrin is just another example of why i keep telling my friends and family that they're not gonna recognize these vols when they take the field in atlanta. they're faster, stronger, smarter and more experienced. i really do believe nc state is not gonna know what hit them. bang bang 2 possessions 14-0. and a good time was had by all. GO BIG ORANGE !!!

  • Having Jay on the staff should really help Devrin's development- he will take one to the house this year!

  • I understand the slight concern about his size . . . I remember having the same thoughts with a 5'9, 190 RB that had to carry a huge load due to injuries. Travis Stephens was one for the ages! Also, Tony Thompson did well in the late 80's and early 90's.

Didn't realize Travis Stephens was also that small. Hope that Jay Graham has Young watching tapes of the master himself! (Florida '01)

  • Sounds a lot like Stephens . But he really reminds of Ray Rice when he played for Rutgers everyone said there was no way he would be an every down back and now he's having a decent pro career .

  • This kid is going to have a lot more people fully believing in him by the end of this season...without any skepticism at all. Thrilled to have him on our side. Go Vols!
