That's why those guys are 1st or 2nd rounders. You don't have to be an All-Pro to have a long NFL career and make way more money than the average American with a college degree. The base salary for a rookie in the NFL is $405,000. Also, Sentimore isn't a 3-4 DT, he's a 3-4 DE.

If he's such a marginal player that he couldn't have earned snaps as a 4-3 DT after a very mediocre year as a 3-4 DE, what real chance does he have to earn a paycheck for one of the, call it, 15 teams that run a 3-4 in the league?
I'm not trying to be a jerk about him, because I think he has potential, but he'll be lucky to get drafted.
I, personally, think he would have earned quite a few snaps next year. McCullers can't go every down. We are also going to drop a DE back a step, much like a jack linebacker in a 3-4, which essentially gives you a 3-4 front. He'd have his chances to improve his draft stock.
I hope it works out and he earns enough to go get a degree. I just think it would have definitely been in his favor to stay on scholarship and play his senior year. He needed to prove some things.

Just because he might not have beat out Couch and McCullers for a starting spot doesn't mean he's a marginal player. I think he showed enough to get drafted and I think he's good enought to make a team if he doesn't.
We don't know what kind of financial situation he's in. Him or his family may not can afford to wait another year without filing bankruptcy. Maybe a family friend has promised him a job if his NFL career doesn't pan out. Who knows? I'm just not a fan of being critical of these kids decisions when 99%-100% of us don't know their situation.

Maybe it is, but for every player we lose because our academic standards are higher than others, there is a recruit that chooses Tennessee because our academic standards are higher than others. Maybe Cheek should go, Idk, I'm not in the loop. Maybe Sentimore should have focused more on his academics. Maybe we should sign less JUCOs.

I am all for discussing this issue but I think you know I was not saying that a player has to be an All-Pro to have a long career. In fact, I never brought up the length of a NFL career or the requirements necessary to have a lengthly NFL career in my OP. Reread the last sentence of my post. "My ONLY point was that he did not show himself NFL ready last year" IMO.

*facepalm*
CP, our best athlete since probably Carl Pickens, is leaving early, and one of the reasons is that he probably couldn't meet our academic requirements.
I just can't get on board with that logic. Having higher standards than the rest of our competitors will hurt us in the long-run, not help us.
And what recruits have chosen us because our baseline requirements are higher than other schools? If they choose us for academics, it isn't because we have a higher bare minimum.
