Several assistants hoping to stay

Several of UT's assistant coaches said they hoped to stay in Knoxville under the fired Derek Dooley's successor, and several players have gone to bat for at least one of them.

  • A staff with Pittman Graham Hinshaw and Tee Martin would kill it on the recruiting trail...a big name head coach would b the icing on the cake

Think all the defensive coaches know there is no way they are coming back

  • Whoever our new coach is, someone needs to warn him that if he wants to start offon the right foot with Jersey Vol, he'd better retain Graham, Pittman and Hinshaw.

    Jersey Vol

  • This is how I see it:

If you keep one person on the staff, it's Graham. If two, I think it's Graham and Pittman with Hinshaw on the outside looking in.

Happy Thanksgiving. Eat turkey and go Vols

Coach Strong with a staff of Graham,Pittman,Martin for starters would be great. Where do we find that O/C and D/C to complement this group?

Agree with Graham and Pittman. Hinshaw has had some seriously elite talent and, I think, under-realized the potential, especially this year. Good recruiter, but I don't know how effective a coach he actually is.

  • I know several assistants that are going to be disappointed. Primarily on the defensive side of the ball.

I agree, I'm not sure whether to compliment Hinshaw in turning Rogers into the best of his brothers or cousins whichever. Or blame him for the lack of improvement of Patterson running routes and Hunters struggles with consistency.

Hunter got the $$$ in his eyes. Everyone can see that. Patterson is an athletic freak but just raw. I think an off season with Hinshaw would really help CP. Doesnt matter who coaches Hunter imo. Dont think he is gonna lay it 100%on the line for UT.Too close to gettin paid In any case Hinshaw is a good coach.

IT TAKES NO TALENT TO HUSTLE

  • I'd be disappointed if Graham and Pittman weren't retained. It's easy to see the fruits of their labor. But I'd agree with a couple of other posters. Would be surprised to see any on the defensive side stay, with the lone exception being Palermo.

I agree with both you guys about Graham & Pittman. I really like both those coaches -- their results on the field and their recruiting -- and really want both of them to stay.

VolBol, I've wondered exactly what you wrote: how much of our WR's disappointing results, especially against top SEC teams, was Hinshaw's fault and how much was other things? I don't know how much Hunter saw NFL $'s this year. Maybe he had trouble coming back from his ACL like Jamal Lewis did in the late 90's. How much of Patterson's difficulty running routes was his own fault? (It took Da'Rick a year or more to learn how to run routes.) I don't know, so I'm not sure what to think about Hinshaw's coaching, either.

  • I personally would like to know how the younger wide receivers felt about Hinshaw before making a decision on him. We haven't yet heard the group come out and defend their coach as the line did with Pittman. No matter what though I do appreciate Hinshaw's recruiting efforts.

  • Either way, I like the assistants that we have at UT, (excluding some of the defensive minds), but on the offensive side of the ball we have been one of the best in UT's history. We could absolutely build around them

Good ppints, Eric. The other thing I lke about Hinshaw is that he is versatile. If he stayed (qb coach?), it wouldn't necessarily prevent Tee returning to Knoxville. Obviously, th head coach would have to determine that and three holdover coaches is no the norm, but I do like Hinshaw (just not as much as Jay and Pittman).

  • HA HA HA

    Shipperman

  • You all need to forget about Tee Martin. He works for Lane Kiffin and we are on probation for a few years anyway. We need no more problems

    Shipperman

  • Basically the HC hires the three coordinators he wants (OC, DC and Kicking Game); then the OC and DC hire the assitants they want. Graham and Pittman make sense from a cost-savings/performance-production basis. Hinshaw stays through signing day and is then let go. Everyone else will be let go.

The team just needs to get DD in the rearview mirror. I suspect that all these position coaches and Chaney are all very good, but there needs to be a clean break from DD-tis.

All these guys will get and take new jobs ASAP. This will defray the majority of the contract payouts. Even DD might get a job quicker than you think.

    UTSwamper

  • I'd like to see Hinshaw go back to QB's coach. Bray needs a coach and I'm sure the young guys do too. I thought it was insanity to have two DB coaches and move Hinshaw to WR's. Pittman and Graham are no brainers. Gruden or bust!
