Slow News Day

  • Since there isn't much going on this week I have a question. I know there are a few people on the board from Charlotte. I am driving to Louisville on Wednesday and trying to see if it's best to go thru Knoxville or go up 77 to 64 into Louisville. I usually avoid the mountain stretch between Asheville and Knoxville on busy holiday weekends. Google says 77 to 64 is 45 minutes longer than going thru Knoxville.

If any has gone either way and could let me know I'd appreciate it.

Since I think your question is about avoiding the mountains at holiday time, it really depends what time you are going to be coming across there on Wednesday. If you can be past Asheville by 10 am on Friday (leaving Charlotte by 7:30 am) you should be fine in the mountains. The nice thing about holiday weekends is that the trucks stop running until Sunday for the most part. With that said if you are pretty adamant about staying off of 40, that section of 64 isn't too bad in WV and 77 isn't bad once you get out of Charlotte and you can probably make up some of that time and get to Lousville in around 8 hours depending on stops.

Hope that helps, Happy Thanksgiving and safe travels.

  • NCVOL,

I am thinking about avoiding the mountains if possible, was looking for someone that had made the trip from 64. Thanks for the response, I think I'll give that a shot since I most likely won't be leaving town between 1-4pm. I'll have to work and I could let my wife drive as I worked, but I also want to be around for Christmas so that probably isn't an option.

Have a great Thanksgiving, and thanks again for the input.
