Stat-seekers displease UT's seniors

A few frustrated Tennessee seniors said after Saturday's 10-7 loss at Kentucky that too many young players on this UT team cared too much about their personal statistics.

I'm growing really tired of this team "needing to grow up." If cutting some players that have maturity issues is what has to happen, then so be it. But I'm not going to accept "immaturity" as an excuse anymore.

    I'll hang up and listen.

  • That is disturbing prespective from our "team" Dooley needs to sort that out if there are truely selfish players on this team because we have them at 3 more years.

I agree on this. I'm sick of hearing inexperienced and "needing to grow up" too. Most of these guys have played a lot of football in two years, so experience and needing to grow up shouldn't be an issue.

Dooley's honeymoon phase is over. It's time to get wins or get out-simple as that.

Unfortunately, I get the feeling that some of our most immature players also happen to be our best players. Another function of lack of depth. Nobody is behind these guys threatening their playing time.

Should not have to now. They are now becoming upperclassman. They won't be able to say they are immature from that standpoint. Plus, I suspect that this loss and the seniors calling them out will have a positive outcome: helping them to grow up.

That's what my sense was reading the article, too. And I agree with shoeless that the problem's bigger if it's in reference to Da'Rick. Bray was trying to force the ball to him quite a bit, especially in the middle of the game.

Man, nobody on this board's happy with today, and not feeling much better about the season as a whole. Watching a college team rebuild is like investing: sometimes you've got to be in it for the long haul and stomach some serious ups & downs.

Whatever team you follow, given enough time, they're going to have to rebuild. Bama did. Florida is. LSU & Auburn have. And ND certainly has. You're going to be a fair weather fan bouncing from team to team if you don't turn a new leaf.

As for me & a lot of this board, I've been a Vol fan all my life, and I have every intention of remaining one for the rest of it.

    Go Vols.

I agree Mac. The "we're a young team" phase, while true this year, has now expired. I saw growth from the defense this year and I saw growth from the offense before Hunter and Bray went down. Next year I expect to start seeing results and I would not expect for us to fall apart if we lose some starters to injury.

You can't mean that. if your a true fan of the Vols, then you can't just leave like that. I'm not begging you to stay, if you wanna go then your not a fan. But if you love this team like a true fan then you didn't mean what you said and you let Your emotions get the best of you and didn't mean it. It happens buddy

  • I hope the way the seniors were sent out, having to sit home during bowl season and breaking the streak are a cause for the "immature, inexperienced" guys on this team to grow up in the off-season. If so, we could have a more seasoned team next year.

    ericstubb

  • I'm personally tired of the excuses as well. Sometimes the offensive play calling seems really questionable. Why is Chaney going to call a play in the wildcat when Bray drove them down to the 5? Doesn't seem to make any sense to me. Da'Rick is unbelievably immature without a doubt. Any player who gets up after a catch and starts to talk smack when you have a losing record only cares about himself. I'm hoping that some of these other receivers coming in will start to challenge the playing time of that kid.

  • My real fear is that it's not just the WR(s) that are counting stats.

  • I've been a fan since 82! I was 10 yrs old!I have never seen a worse team since I've been watching them play!Fairweather fan?I'm just being REALISTIC!Please I love tennessee more than anyone! But facts are facts!Fulmer screwed us with 3 yrs of suck a** recruiting and kiffin even more!I do feel for dooley! He stepped into a huge mess! But he will have to hire some better position coaches! How do you have a worse running game with all the same people back?

    CJBlaze

  • Doggone! Dooley is going to have his hands full with this stuff. Hope he keeps it together. Wonder who's going to step up and be a leader on this team?
