Stats speak for Dores' defense

UT's players didn’t see any freakishly large, freakishly athletic defenders jumping off the screen as they watched film of Vandy’s defense, but still they were impressed. Why?

  • Vandy has one of its better teams, however the VOLS can win this game if any kind of TN defense shows and we can win the turn over battle.

  • Well, with all due respect, not ANY kind of Tennessee defense. If the one that showed against Troy, or in the fourth quarter and in OT in Missouri shows up, we could be toast.

  • I'm sorry. I just can't see us pulling this out. Not after the way we played the last two games. Unless something has changed on our D side, I don't think we can win.

Of course, I hope I'm wrong.

  • I think you'll se UT play much better on Defense as a whole in a couple hours. Well enough to win is the question. From what I've heard Conklin is calling the defense now and he's had it along with Dooley since last week. Sals been mostly with the LB's from what I've heard. GBO!

  • It's real hard for me as a old Tennessee guy to get excited about this game, playing to get in a loser bowl. Hope the players aren't like me. I miss the good times, Vandy is just supposed to be somebody to beat up at the end of the season. I do not know if the administration at Tennessee now is willing to do something risky, expensive big and bold to get us back, having 5 top 10 teams from the SEC is not an environment for the meek. Go with everything you got to get the best .

  • As I started watching UT football with the Gator Bowl against Fla. back in '69, I've seen the good and the bad, including the bowl drought in the mid-70's. As bad as this UT defense has been, overall, that is by weighing the strengths of the Vol offense vs. the weaknesses of the Vol defense, this team is way, way better than those no-bowl teams. So the balance is between the best passing offense since Payton and the best scoring offense since Shuler vs. the worst pass defense I've ever seen at UT and a middle of the road rush D. The result to me is that UT very well could win a shoot out with Vandy. With the finish-the-game troubles UT has had, this will be nervous-making and the score will be close, but I think the Vols can do it.

  • And I don't mind that UT fans have only beating Vandy and Ky to look forward to. With the motivation the 'Dores will have and their belief that this is their time to beat UT, and with the payback we owe KY, I'll glory in beating them, even if it's by two points total. And I'll be geeked to the gills if UT gets in a bowl, ANY bowl.
