Stephen Hargis ( times free press)

  • Before you laugh me off the board near with me. Hargis was the one who broke strory about Gruden having a contract in hand. His source Vic Grider ( the head coach at powerhouse south Pittsburgh) resigned unexpectedly last night. He was a GA with Gruden at UT. Word is he is going gone the high school recruiting liaison for Gruden at UT. Listen I hate theories and not facts but think about the facts. Cheek met with Strong not Hart. There was no offer just talks that Strong will verify soon. Why? He was interviewed to meet the minority rule (which is non binding ) of looking at minorities during a search . Gundy himself never said he had an offer. Hart never interviewed Fedora in New York. For all we know he has not interviews anyone. Why? He's had his guy. There is something in the Espn contract that is preventing them from announcing at this time. Just think about it.... Is Hart so inept that he would let 3 good coaches slip away? Why is Cheek interviewing and not Hart? Why has no one that supposed to have received offers come out themselves and say they have received offers? Why has Gruden nor hart dismissed the rumors outright to put end to it? They let an agent be the fall guy ( which is brilliant on all heir parts) . He's coming. Believe it or not. If I'm right I expect an apology and a job on 247 lol.

  • Hart let 3 candidates "slip away?" That's not realistic. More realistic is that none of the three candidates thought our job is attractive, and it isn't.

This guy is supposedly one of JG's best friends.

Also, if I'm arguing in favor of the JG conspiracies, which I'm not, but if I wanted to create a smokescreen by interviewing coaches I had no chance of landing I would start with OSU alum Mike Gundy, waited-20-years-to-get-a-HC-job Strong (whose AD has gone on record and stated he wouldn't lose a bidding war for), and I've-only-been-here-one-year-and-don't-want-the-Kiffen-Todd Graham-stigma Fedora.

I can't help but find it interesting that the coaches who are literally sitting on a tee for Hart to hire (no pun intended) are Butch Jones (who has turned down 3 jobs hoping to get a shot at UT), Butch Davis (who has FIU at arm's length), and Al Golden and they haven't even been interviewed.

    Sorry, couldn't help myself.

  • People brilliant enough to successfully implement and execute a subterfuge operation like this would have been able to come up with a "smokescreen" which did not involve making themselves look like fools, and the University a national joke.

  • There is no "minority" rule in the NCAA:

Won't link so here it is:

    http://www.ncaa.org/wps/wcm/connect/2be8bc804665feb2b185bd5853a7f8f8/BBD_MinorityCoach.web.pdf?MOD=AJPERES&CACHEID=2be8bc804665feb2b185bd5853a7f8f8

    From the article:

Does the NCAA have anything like the NFL’s “Rooney Rule?”

Legally, the NCAA can’t adopt such a rule. The “Rooney Rule” is a National Football League policy requiring teams to interview minority candidates for head coaching positions. The NFL is a for-profit business that is able to legally draft and enforce such policies. In contrast, the NCAA, a non-profit and voluntary member association, cannot influence individual campus hiring practices. However, in early 2008, Division I athletic directors recognized the problem and adopted hiring guidelines similar to the “Rooney Rule.” While voluntary, peer pressure plays a major role in ensuring schools comply with these guidelines. The main focus, however, should be getting minority coaches hired, not just interviewed.

  • As much as I would like to believe your conspiracy theory, I think the better reason for him stepping down is because he went 2-18 in 2 years as a head coach. But I will run with your theory until we hire someone else. pray

Not necessarily as a coach but a liaison to recruit high school kids. It's probably all untrue I'm just giving an alternate theory to all this cluster fudge of a coaching search
