***Strong turns down Tennessee***

  • schlepper79

  • guys i know this is dissapointing news but it could be worse there are still some good coaches out there. we just need to face it this isnt the 90's anymore we are not considered a top ten job anymore maybe a top 25 and it just gonna take a few years to get back to where we are use to being!

  • Bring back Fulmer!!!

    pcorange

  • I agree, but what makes it frustrating is that we've been saying, "it's gonna take a few years" for a few years now!! I don't think we were expecting for it to take a few years, plus some additional few years!! This is all very frustrating....

  • Maybe Hart is trying to boost his own stock. Make it seem like the school has run full steam ahead into the proverbial iceberg, put panic into the fans hearts and minds. Then, in the final minute, swoop in with a big hire that makes the fan base feel as though he saved the day and rescued the sinking ship we like to call our football program.

A man can dream, eh? Who knows, maybe I'll wake up in the morning and Gruden will be our head coach with Harbaugh as our DC and Chip Kelly as our OC and an instant #1 recruiting class.

by a few years i mean to say anywhere from 3 to 10 i mean we have to get a good hire first and i believe we need to get rid of cheek, but honestly we do not have to get a jon gruden to turn this around i believe fedora, jones, golden, dykes,or any guy like that could be the next urban meyer, but what hart needs to do if we hire a guy like that is give him 2 million a year with incentives built in for good performance and make the buyout low to minimize risk! giving dooley 5 mil buyout was insane!

  • So what's next? Who are we going for now? Will be get someone good? How does this effect recruiting? Fulmer should give us some status and he is a good coach. I am still positive about this, I think we will come out of this in pretty good position. It is not like the aforementioned coaches are the ONLY good coaches around.

  • I think our only hope is to go after Petrino. If he had stayed off the Motorcycle, he would perhaps be getting Ark ready for a Bowl game. He is a very good coach and perhaps has learned a good lesson.

  • I am going to have to self diagnose as manic-depressive. This is like a huge roller coaster ride. One minute, I'm thinking, "Oh, hell, this is terrible. The whole program is about to collapse." Then the next minute, I'm thinking, "Wait a minute, boy. Most schools get turned down a couple or three times before they get a coach." I don't know what to think now. Hopefully it will work out for the best and UT will start it's climb back to relevance. Anything has to be an improvement over Derek Dooley.

again i like petrino, but guys we dont have to have a big name if we pick the right up and comer! its not the end of the world... some of these guys like fedora, golden, jones, and others could very well be the next brian kelley. all you have to do is not give them a big buyout. by keeping the buyout low you protect yourself when you gamble! i mean after all saban, meyer, petrino, fulmer, yes even gruden were once unproven up and comers!

  • Another UofL fan here. Not to make trouble. I was just hanging around earlier checking to see if you guys knew more about Strong's situation than I did.

But now, my advise would be to hire the genius. Petrino is an instant win for any program. Let him grab a good QB, (he does not even require an all-american QB) and bring in a couple dependable receivers and you guys will be blowing up the SEC. He is that good. By the time you are 4 and 0 next year, your boosters will be offering him a new bike when he beats Bama. Give him half of what you offered Charlie and hang on for a great ride.

Good luck with your search, whichever way you go.

IMO the whole men's athletic program at UT has collapsed. Tonight the men's basketball team looked like a middle school team for the second game in a row. Martin is beginning to look like another Dooley. No decent coach wants to take over Dooley's mess. Maybe they can go to China or Russia to find a replacement for Martin. Seems UT is not a desired destination anymore. This is really hard to take as a long time Big Orange fan and alumni.
At lease we have the Lady Vols BB and softball teams to cheer for.

  • Coach Charlie Strong... What a vajayjay.

Making big bucks at Louisville without the big time pressure of SEC life. Enjoy the not even full at 55,000 papa johns stadium and complaining about your fans while going to a BCS bowl every other year and winning the division at 7-5!

Why would you choose Louisville over us, I was going to cheer for Louisville in the bowl but screw that I hope they get beat by 100

You come over and try to steal OUR coach, you force us to pay up the guys salary, all this RIGHT BEFORE OUR BCS GAME....and then you get mad at US?

    Screw you bub.

Congratulations Dave Hart. Your gross mishandling of this entire search has now set UT football back 5 years. Hope you're not here to see them all.

It's not Hart's fault. The word loyal still means a great deal to a lot of people. 9 wins and 10 losses and the school gives him an extension on his contract. That's commitment. A word that still means a great deal to a lot of people. A 5 yr contract between two parties. The word contract still means a great deal to a lot of people. Instant gratification...a word that should mean nothing to everybody especially as it relates to rebuilding a football team. There's a lesson here to be learned. How we handle it with the next coach will determine when the VOLS return to the top level of the SEC again. It won't happen in 2 or 3 yrs. We need to understand that. We need to commit to the process.
