Sunseri Out....Conklin In?

  • Ryan's tweet from Dooley's press conference said, "Dooley said safeties coach Josh Conklin 'is giving more and more' input during games from the press box as the season goes along.

Would Dooley ever consider firing Sunseri and promoting Conklin?

I asked a similar question in that thread and it was explained by a Mod that it was more of Conklin and Sunseri being more comfortable with their dialog during the game. Take it for what it is worth(not a slam on the Mod's).

Please explain to me how him being from the Citadel has anything to do with his coaching ability. I'm pretty sure not every good coach comes from the Nick Saban for Bill Bellichick coaching trees.

He has no experience coaching in this league, let alone Division 1. Why would you want that at Tennessee? Do you want another guy who has to learn on the job and make mistakes like Dooley does week in and week out?

Look, I am an SEC guy too, but to basically say that any coach outside of the SEC can't coach in the SEC is a little ridiculous. Its not like he was at the Citadel just twiddling his thumbs and letting them do whatever, without knowing what was going on. Just because Dooley has made some mistakes doesnt mean that every coach to ever come to the SEC from a different conference is going to make a ton of mistakes too, and every coach in the SEC isn't mistake proof. Its still college football. Hes not going from bagging groceries to rocket science here.

Running a good defense in college football is rocket science. There's only like 5 or 6 really good one'es every year. Give me a guy w/ experience coaching in D1 not Citadel.

Yeah i forget it is rocket science. Look I want a guy with experience as much as the next person, but to sit here and say that since he coached at the Citadel, and doesnt have "enough" D-1 or SEC experience, he doesnt know what he is doing is just dumb. It just cracks me up how people think we blindly throw darts at a board to pick our coaches.

You're the only guy on this entire board who would say "hey that Conklin guy would be a good idea for defensive coordinator"

Thanks for twisting my words. Literally all i was saying is that its a little over the top to condemn a guy because hes from the Citadel and hasnt coached in the SEC. I dont care if his name is Conklin or Dick Lebeau, as long as he gets the job done. But yeah, go ahead and read it that I said Conklin is the one and only defensive coordinator for me.

I won't go as far as saying i wish CJW was back, I HATED his system. I do like CSS's attacking attitude, but we definitely don't have the personnel to pull it off. Is it the coach or the players? I'm not sure.shrug
