Sunseri happy with JUCO D-line help

Junior college defensive line prospects are always among the nation’s most fiercely battled-for recruits for a reason, according to new UT defensive coordinator Sal Sunseri.

  • I feel so much better about having a guy thats coached in the SEC but not necessarily had tons of exp as a coordinator vs a guy with no significant ties to the region who had success at d coord. Can. Not. Wait until the season starts up again.

  • u are so right....a n experienced coach that knows what he's doing.....i was sick of seeing those 3rd and longs being converted because of wilcox's westcoast defense systems

  • Pardon the novice here, but is Palermo experienced in the pro-style look that Sunseri will be teaching or will he be learning it along with his linemen?

Sunseri can't open his mouth without saying one of the following words...TECHNIQUE, ACCOUNTABILITY. All the great programs demand these things. +1 Thanks Wes.

Palermo coached D-Line for the Redskins in 08 @ 09 so I would think he would have some knowledge.

  • Wes, I love the way he "talks the talk". Based on his experience I would think he can "walk the walk" as well. I'm looking forward to seeing what he accomplishes with this team. I have the feeling we got a good one!vols

  • Wes I love the phrase "UT’s new defensive czar." LOL! Read that and almost fell out of my chair. Also, have you spoken with this guy one time without the phrase: "You know what I'm saying" being used? More than anything else, I love the energy he seems to be approaching this thing with. I'm sure CJW was enthusiastic about his work, but he obviously had a different approach to coaching than CSS. I love the guys who run on high all the time.

  • I think, you know, that CSS and the other coaches emphasis on technique will pay dividends this season. Know what I'm sayin?
In all seriousness it definitely sounds like the coaches realize the importance of proper technique. You can have all the athletic ability in the world but it doesn't help you if you're out of position to make the play.

  • Can't wait to see the results this guy has with the defense. Hopefully he will stick around a few years and his defenses or Tenn's defenses will be known as some of the best in the country year after year. Get excited just talking about it. Is it Sept yet?
