Tennessee commitment Cameron Sutton of Jonesboro, Ga., may visit a couple of other teams in the coming weeks, but he's looking forward to returning to Knoxville next week.

  • I like what Im seeing from this staff thus far! The tight end jackson would be a very good guy to get big and athletic 6'6" 240 and runs a 4.6 40 thats a good athletic tight end imo! GBO

  • I'll be seventy next month and I've played a little and watched and followed a lot of football in my day. I believe we need a new vocabulary. Commitment is a word that is getting a little worn out. Some times these extra visits fall in our favor and sometimes not. I worry that it's getting to the point where the last team that gets the visit gets the signature.

  • I agree CLR. Commitment is the wrong word, it means something stronger than what is really occurring. Maybe it should be called a "reservation" which reserves a spot on the roster, but can be revoked by either party at anytime up until NSD. Regardless of what it's called, it's never over until it's over, and make for a very exciting month of January.

  • Agreed. Maybe we should call it an "inclination." Seems more accurate. Commitment is what I made to my wife 43 years ago and its been a one-day renewable contract ever since. This lack of commitment is representative of society in general. In life as in baseball, or football, as they say.

  • Agreed. The "commitment" word/issue is kind of shadowy at best. On both sides, I mean. It's sad that schools, the "adults" here, play musical chairs with these kids right up to signing day and sometimes after. When a kid can sign on the line then be told there's no room for him. Also, while I'm complaining, WTF the schools get to redo their scholarship every year? I mean, a student that gets a scholly isn't "renewed" every year, as long as they keep their grades to a certain level they're good until graduation, am I right about that?

  • You have a point Bleedz, It's not a very good two way street. We seem to forget that this is an educational institution. Education should be a major factor for both sides in living up to an agreement. There are changes on the horizon. There are huge safety issues that are racing to the forefront as well. Big changes coming over the next few years. I believe the nature of scholarships is about to be redefined o a major degree.

  • I agree the use of the word commitment is not the best. I actually cant stand the way its abused. I am old fashion though for a 41 year old and think of that word as it is your word that represents your character.

I also think the process itself needs to change too:

    1. I think the HC should be allowed more access to his own team and to see recruits on the road to make better decisions for both the coach and the player. I think for the most part these coaches have the best interest for the kids and to limit the access to the point where it currently is.....is not the best thing for kids.
    2. I think NSD needs to be moved back about a month to allow for players to learn more about new HCs and assts that take new jobs in Jan. It would not affect EEs. I think there should also be a signing day in Dec.
    3. I would like to see no player allowed to give a "commitment" til their SR year and only once that player has at least visited the school unofficially or officially.
    4. I would like to explore a HC being allowed to talk about a recruit in the press but ONLY his SR year and only once a player has visited officially or something along those lines.......I do not like the 1 way avenue in the press where kids are allowed to control the entire message/ information. BUT this one may need more thinking about.
