Team Attitude for Kentucky Game

  • I'm curious to see what the board thinks about the team's upbeat attitude in Saturday's win over Kentucky. Jawuan James posted this on Twitter today:

@JawuanJames70: We all had fun playing football yesterday you could see it. That was the most fun playing football with my boys in all these 3 years. Vfl

So my question for you guys: Did the team have a great time purely due to the fact that CDD wasn't on the sidelines? Or, did they just go out and have a good time because they had nothing to play for other than themselves and their teammates, under absolutely no amount of pressure?

It looked to me like Chaney just let them play, rather than trying to force them to run certain plays or do certain things. There were several players used in the game who had little or no playing time all season, and a few of them helped the Vols win an SEC game finally.

  • I think most people look at this and see it as a testament to how players actually felt about Dooley as a coach.

However, I feel that the team just enjoyed playing with an absence of pressure. Over the last three years, this is the one game that Tennessee has played in which the outcome had absolutely no effect on the team's postseason chances. Guys that never see the field got to play significant minutes, and I know that can always create excitement on the sidelines.

Great question. I think that it had to do with the message that Chaney conveyed to the team.

He basically said that they needed to go out and have fun, and that this is the game they love and have played since they were eight.

A lot of them bought into it, obviously, and it paid off.

SOME of it may have had something to do with Dooley not being there. Not sure about that. I just think Chaney did a great job preparing the guys and telling them to have fun.
