    You are correct that the recruiting class isn't over yet. It's a long way until NSD. Also agree that stars don't tell the whole story. Here's where I disagree: Tennessee's greatest players were NOT 2-3 star kids. Peyton Manning, Jamal Lewis, Jason Witten, Robert Meachem, Eric Berry were not 2-3 star players. Let's not discount the fact that the best teams in the country are also the teams who sign the best players.

    This is a crucial recruiting year for UT because of the players who will graduate and the few who will likely leave early next year. If this class finishes at 46th in the country (where I think it stands now) then UT is looking at 2-3 more years of .500 or below. I know I've said this before, but I see Jones going into year 3 with two straight .500 or below seasons and on the hotseat.... sounds just like 2010, huh?

    careful there WV..don't you know that recruiting rankings don't matter? As long as the players we sign are going to work like heck the wins will come..remember, the system is infallible.

    I'm all for freedom of speech - however, I'm concerned that every time a new or potential signee is negatively evaluated on this or other sites based on star ratings, etc. we are hurting our own team's image for current and future recruits. We should be happy that student-athletes want to come to UT vs. other SEC schools - not trashing them for their so-called subpar ratings. We are all naive if we think that recruits and their families and friends don't check out these sites, including this one. As a UT alum, I am very happy that Mr. Jones chose to represent the Power T. Go Vols!

    soo..if we sign a class of one star recruits and end up with a class ranked at the bottom of the sec we should be happy as fans, we shouldn't offer any critique, because we would be hurting our image...? Is it ever okay to offer critique then in your opinion? I don't understand this thought process.. Teams with the best players win. I would like to get the best players. I would like to have a winning record. I hope that everyone on this board feels the same.

  • Even though this kid is only a 3 star, I think CBJ will bring out the best in him. I saw him play in 3 Juco games this year (Kansas has some great juco players) and this kid can be a beast. I for one am glad he signed with the Vols!! GBO

    Hate to sound ignorant because I far from being a recruiting Guru but how does 22 tackles and a couple pass break ups at a Community college qualify him to play in the SEC?? I love any JUCO signing but I must be missing something here

    How many pass break ups did we have this year? Or tackles by the secondary for that matter?

    I'm not big on * power, but these guys are ranked for a reason. No one can tell me that a lot of these recruiting services aren't basing their rankings on the looks a kid is getting. Sure, they go to camps and games but they also base their rankings on what they hear. I understand that it doesn't mean the world and that plenty of three star players end up being great players, but you can't fill a roster with 3* players and expect to win in the SEC. Just doesn't happen. Right now, UT is 40th in the country and 13th in the SEC in the 247 recruiting rankings. That's a long, long way from competing in the SEC.

    It's amazing how many of the same people on here calling us "star gazers" are the same ones who would be falling all over themselves if UT signed Derek Henry, Vonn Bell, and/or Montravius Adams. Guess stars only matter when they work in favor of one's own argument.

    true that..or if Jones decommited like Zanca how many would say "I never thought much of the guy anyway..". It seems elementary that the teams with the best talent have the most success..and unless we start recruiting with the best, we won't be successful. Sorry if that offends my fellow vol fans.

    I especially love the notion that only 3* players will come in and bust their ass for Tennessee. Everyone knows those 4-5 star players are lazy kids who will only take advantage of the program and leave after three years.

    Getting a boat-load of 4-5* guys to commit to a program that's gone 10-14 over the past two years is not gonna happen (especially with a new coaching staff that's been in town for two weeks), even at UT..., unless we have a few bagmen to help out. Seeing as how the NCAA probation was recently extended, I think the bagmen and hostesses are not an option. Regardless, we do have a talented roster that can compete in the SEC (with one of the best offensive lines in the country, if not the best). There won't be a magic wand to wave over the 5*s to get them to wear orange, but we should be able to work our way out of the basement over the next couple of years. And we'll have to do that with the kids that think the UT program is in their best interest, whether they are NR(not rated) or 5*s, or anywhere in between. In saying all this, I still think we have a good shot to get Bell and Green. Montravious Adams & Derek Henry..., not so much.

  • He seems like a special person. He wants us to judge him on and off the field.
    I believe the young man is going to be special. He wants to be a role model and coach BJ and the staff are doing some great things. He really wants to come here let's welcome him and let's try to be postive. I believe the VOLS are on their way back to the top
