Tennessee offers Ala. linebacker

A senior linebacker from Pinson, Ala., who attended one of Tennessee's summer camps says the Vols on Thursday became the first SEC team to extend a scholarship offer to him.

  • Guy doesn't seem too excited. I am not one of the negative Nancy's on here, but is this really the best we can do? Why waste an offer on this guy who did not even say yes?

  • After hearing this kid talk, I wish they would pull the offer. there are kids in TN who grew up loving the Vols, and wanting to play for the Vols. If this kid wants to play in the SEC, but TN is MAYBE a second choice, then I say pull the offer and let him wait on Bama. My question about him would be where does he play in the defence? He is an LB in HS, but in college I cannot imagine a 196 pound LB making it. I know he can grow, but seriously, aren't we looking for bigger players in the 3-4?

  • Everyone is talking as if they ave seen him play. I refuse to be negative about a kid before at least seeing his tape. Just b/c a player is not ranked does not mean he cannot play football. FWIW, I dont believe it is wise to narrow our recruiting to players that love Tennessee.

  • His stats tell me he has some ability 3 star or not, that ALOT of tackles in 9 games. 140/9= 15.5 tackles per game
    29/9=3.22 TFL per game
    10/9=1.11 sacks per game

Yes he's light, but you don't ahve to be 250lbs to make a play.

  • Yeah kid take your 3 stars and go to bama then get "marred" up in the depth chart for four years, maybe seeing some spot action after the five stars have put it away.but hey what bama fan wouldn't like to sit and watch the game from the sideline.GBO & Go LSU!

  • You guys are crazy. The kid grew up a Bama fan. So of course that's his first choice. If he were a UT fan he would've jumped on board just like a few of our current commits. And he's playing it smart by seeing what other offers come in before pulling the trigger too soon. If he were to commit and then de-commit you guys would be harping on him for that too. Stop being psychopaths and give the kid a break.

Agree and +1. He has flown under the radar and just may be a late bloomer on the field. Can't blame the kid for wanting a Bama offer (he lives in that state). He does seem a bit small, but coaches can usually determine if a player's body frame can bulk up. He is obviously producing in a 3-4 already. He might not be middle LB, but with his speed he could work one of the outside spots. I'm sure a lot of really good players have come on late in their HS careers to go on to be really good college players. He may not be a 4 or 5 star, but his production on the field looks good.

It's easy to recruit when you're recruiting to Alabama.

There are an incredible number of linebacker reaches out there we've offered. As always, just my opinion, but I would have thought he'd do better.

But after seeing his defenses play, I'm honestly not sure he knows what he's doing at all. He's in over his head on this level. Again, you guys probably don't want me posting on this board right now, but I'm always going to give you how I see it.

A lot of the anti-Sal rhetoric sounds eerily similar to the consensus about Todd Grantham at UGA a couple of years ago. Surprisingly, UGA stuck with him and now he is considered a better coordinator than Kirby Smart, because everyone knows Kirby just hold Saban's clipboard while Nick teaches the defense how to play. Food for thought. I think so many fans are going to be shocked by what can happen next year with this defense. Try not to forget Saban went 6-6 when he installed it at Bama.

  • I haven't watched the tape on this kid, but I think an SEC strength and conditioning program will either greatly increase his speed ability for safety (and what a monster of a safety he could be) or pack on the 25-30 pounds of muscle he will need at LB. Kenny Bynum put on 33 pounds of solid muscle in this program.
