  • It almost seems as if they didn't do any research on tennessee! Anyone who knows the program knows we're in a lot better shape than when Dooley got here and despite the talent we are losing, we still have talent on the roster. James Franklin didn't start winning w top 10 talent at vandy. Nor did Saban in his second season at LSU or Bama. All CBJ has to do is coach up our guys and we will be competing on both sides of the ball next season. I'm willing to bet were going to be In more games to win it than last year. This staff wants to be here and is excited to be here! They know they've got something to prove and I believe they will. VFL!

    You make it sound so easy, but Butch has never beat a team with more talent than his own. Not to my knowledge anyway.

    I think you could make the argument that the Vanderbilt team they beat had more SEC talent than Cincy. You might be able to say that the L'Ville teams Cincy beat two of the last three years had more talent?

    You need to check your knowledge.Cause in the last three years. Just to name they beat Vanderbilt Louisville and Virgina Tech. No he hadnt beat Georgia Bama or Florida but last time I checked neither did Derek Dooley.Just sayin.So Missouri and Mississippi State just outweighed us on talent last year.Dont think so.Sometimes teams play down to their opponent sometimes they rise up.Regardless of if a team had more talent.Butch Jones will win more games than Dooley did and win more Sec games thsn Dooley did in two than Dooley did in three seasons.

    My comment was based on the fact that Butch is 0-5 vs ranked opponents, the opinion that Vandy and Louisville had comparable talent (not better), and the unawareness of Butch's victory over Va Tech.

    I have to disagree. VA Tech had higher ranked players, Louisville does/did, and Vandy has comparable if not slightly better than Cincy did. Not to mention Rutgers who had several 4* players. Cincy beat them all with a roster of 2* & 3* players. BTW...ever thought about changing your screen name to nonvolfan28? I see more negative posts than positive. You and frostyvol aren't the same person are you? Lol ....GBO, and go CBJ & Staff!

    I understand what you are saying, but he has never had a realistic chance to win those games like he has here. The ranked teams he has played have been a good deal more talented than his teams. That talent gap will much more narrow when he plays anyone as the coach at UT. The important thing is winning/playing well when up against teams with comparable talent, which the previous staff was unable to do.

    He also didn't have the resources at Cincy that he has here and he probably has a better supporting staff now than he had at Cincy or CMU, so that's a plus.

    Exactly. Here's hoping he starts closing that gap between our team and the teams currently at the top of the conference. Or slow the widening of it that has been happening the last few years as Dooley searched for those diamonds in the rough. Unsuccessfully, it seems.

    Are you saying that Central Michigan had more talent than Michigan State when Coach Jones and company beat the Spartans in East Lansing in 2009?

  • Volfan28, I've read many of your posts and know your just as much a vols fan as I. I also didn't take your response to my post negatively, with that said, I am aware of what CBJ's past resume is and I do believe him being able to win his conference against teams w comparable or slightly better talent says a lot. Don't forget VaTech always has talent and great coaching and he beat them. With the passion CBJ and staff are showing is what's been missing and I do believe it will be easy for them to come in and coach our boys up! This team is ready to start winning again! Also, don't forget, we now have a coaching staff that has won games and know how to win games. No matter what level it was done at, that can be very contagious!! Thanks! VFL!

  • Look at volfan28 mixing it up with everyone. Way to go, sir. I'll give you +1 for sticking to your guns, even if they are pointed in the wrong direction.

    As for CBJ coaching up both sides of the ball, after last year I'll be happy if the defense gets coached up. But in reality with all of the talent we lost on offense and having to learn a new scheme on top of that, I am expecting a slow start. Early on, I just want to see the team improving week to week and I'll be pleased.
