The Gruden deal is off fellas, time to move on....

  • Based on what's being said on TOS, I'm convinced the search has officially moved on from Gruden.

When Hubbs says he believes Hart was suppose to be in Florida today, but that meeting was cancelled and now the search is focused on Fisher, Golden and Fedora.....that's the most direct comment I've heard in the 10 days of the search.

That's going from "i have to see it to believe it", to "guys, the search has officially moved on."

I agree. That was disheartening to read to say the least. It all makes sense from what Hubbs has been saying since yesterday.

  • Hate to be a party pooper but I don't believe Hubbs has a clue what Hart's doing.

  • Hubbs is being as direct about it as I've ever seen him. He is even saying Gruden decline the meeting and also that he doesn't believe it was some type of scheduling conflict.

Hubbs is the best in the business IMO. I'll believe him before anybody else.

All I'm saying is that Hubbs said yesterday that Hart was supposed to leave last night for Florida, presumably for Gruden, Fisher and/or Golden, and today he was still in his office. And then Hyams reports that Gruden declined a meeting with Hart today. And then Hubbs echoes this and says it appears the search has moved on to other coaches.

TIFWIW.... But I don't think it's fair to discredit Hubbs' knowledge of the situation. The man has been covering UT athletics longer than most. Hubbs might not be the first to receive info, but he sure as hell wouldn't be the last.

Although Hubbs has rightfully earned the right to be considered amongst the elite in the local media, I would not put him in a tier above Low, Rucker, and a few others.

I wouldn't put him above them either, well maybe Low. But he sure isn't below them. I think it's more than reasonable to assume that this info is solid and it's more than likely "officially" over with Gruden.

So I have a question - if TOS got all of the "Gruden to UT" stuff wrong, why would they suddenly be right now?

The fact is, they don't know anymore than anyone else does. Hart is playing it very close to the vest and that is driving people crazy.

  • I hope this is wrong. I am really tired of UT not being good.

I would normally agree with you and believe me I really want Gruden to Tennessee, but Hubbs has been pretty indirect this entire time, but now he's all of a sudden got info that he feels pretty strongly about. Strongly enough to say he thinks the search is no longer focused on Gruden.

    OMGJonGruden

  • If I'm in Hart's seat today I'd plant negative news too . . calm everyone down, deflect heat from Gruden, divert attention, etc, etc.

Any retraction or explanation from the NBC station that started all this last night? Memphis media jamming East TN Vol fan in the ribs.

  • Agree. Gruden is not happening. He decided to not even meet with UT. I dont think this was anything like a postponed meeting either. Time to turn our attention to Fisher, Golden, Fedora and Strong IMO.

I'm not accusing you of doing this, but since its being discussed, I think some folks that follow UT sports unfairly discredit Low because of his falling out/parting of ways/whatever with the VQ guys, which I think is unfair.

I think Hubbs is in an odd position given his ties to the Vol Network (and therefore the UTAD). That might affect what information he can get because outsiders are leery of the AD connection, and insiders are leery of the media (VQ) side of the equation. I think he tries to get the best information possible (just like W/K/R), but those ties might complicate matters for him.

Good call on him working for the Vol Network, I always forget that until I hear him on gamedays.

Given that situation/relationship, I think its perfectly plausible that Hart has people within the AD throwing out misdirection info to muddy the waters until he can get this thing done, and Brent possibly got info from a person that he trusts and that person was giving Brent info that they thought was true.

Until I hear it out of Dave Hart's mouth or see a press release with a non-photoshopped University of Tennessee header, I'm skeptical.

  • JMO UTAD leaked this today and thats why Hyams got the info. This was the PR move UT had to do in order for its fans and media to move on and digest so the new HC would be accepted/ celebrated once hired.

This leak put it on Gruden turning UT down and IMO is why Gruden appeared unhappy a bit this am as he loves UT. But Hart had to end this storm. Gruden was happy with never commenting etc and now he has without saying anything bc of this report. JMO

Leaning to Fedora and then Fisher.........Strong then Golden.
