The Matchups: Vols-Gators

Final game predictions will come later in the week, but let’s start looking at how No. 23 Tennessee matches up with Saturday's opponent — the visiting, No. 18 Florida Gators.

  • Good analysis Wes. Judging by the even advantages, this game really is a toss up. Who ever is hungrier for the win will probably get it. Hopefully Dooley starves the Vols Friday and Saturday to make sure they are extra hungry for some Gator. Go Vols!!!

  • I think it might just come down to the turnover battle - if we protect the ball and don't have any st meltdowns we should win

Personally, I think the advantage that UT has when passing is extreme. If everything else is even, UT wins easily due to their passing game.

Agreed, to a point. Keeping them off Bray is huge though. Our line is pretty good in pass protection. But we still need some success on the ground, as well as some success on screens, draws, and passes in the flat. If we can do those little things well, enough to slow them down so they can't pin their ears back every play, we should have a LOT of success in the pass game.

  • I think Zach Rogers could be an overlooked X factor in this game. Even if the Gators can find a way to cover both Hunter and Patterson, Rogers should be open when we go three or four wide at receiver. All Rogers has to do is get one big catch early like he did against N.C. State and that will pretty much eliminate double coverage on either Hunter or Patterson. If the O-Line gives Bray time to throw there's not a secondary in the country that can stay with our receivers.

  • WE ARE YEARS BEHIND IN TALENT. EVERY ONE WANTS UT TO WIN BUT DO NOT TAKE ANY THING FOR GRANTED. GBO

  • I can't believe I'm saying this but I think we win by double digits this year, possibly even BIG. I'm confident we stack up well against them, homefield advantage shows up, and the breaks go our way. It's time...

I hope you're right, but it seems that that nationally the team with the better defense and running game wins these type of games. pray

  • The gator fans think they have the studs n the secondary to cover our receivers without much problem!! & they think their dLine will be on TB like white on rice!
    We shall c!!!
    GO BIG ORANGE!!

  • locoI said in the Tenn vs NC State game that the Vols would win by 14 and they did. This is no toss up game. I see the Vols winning by no less than 10 pts.

  • You are wrong about years behind in talent. This team is light years better than last years team and I think (dont quote me) we only lost by 10 last year. Just sYn!loco

  • And that was without Hunter

  • Excited about the game. I think I agree with all the analysis here with the exception of when Tennessee runs. Though the run game has certainly shown improvement the past two games, there will still be many of the exact same matchups in the trenches as there was last year. Florida really whipped Tennessee up front last year; I'm hoping the Vols will stand their ground this year and we will have some positive yardage. Hopefully florida's defensive line hasn't improved as much as our offensive line has. Can't wait to see number 8 slinging the ball around, though!GBO!

  • Although I think it will be a close, hard fought game, I believe the Vols will win. For one thing, we are definitely due. Lastly, I believe we will have a "Tiny" advantage in the run game!
