  • I think another MVP goes to Tiny for whipping Mr. All World for the majority of the game like a rented mule.

  • the fumble by bray is a bitter pill to take. Battled so hard to have a shot to win. Ugas D was on its heels. We looked stronger and the dawgs were fading. Then comes the phantom procedure call and its first and 15. Pocket collapses, Tyler tries to make a play with his feet and our hopes vanish..tough, tough, tough to accept..will be replaying this in my head for a while.

  • Ryan, CBS commented at least once on how UT was keeping its TE's in to protect Bray and there were therefore fewer receivers downfield. Was Cheney often playing it safe on protection and counting on Hunter & Patterson to get open in double coverage?

  • I do want to say I am dang proud of the team. I know we are soo close. When you can name a dozen plays, any of which could have changed the outcome..we are right at the doorstep. Next time lets kick it down.

The right side of the OL just dominated Georgia's DL for most of the game too. JaWuan played his ass off.

The OL had a great night all-round, I thought: pass protection and run blocking. Probably their most complete game of Dooley's entire tenure. They've given Bray good to outstanding pass protection since at least the beginning of last season. In the second half, GA started hurrying Bray, but they never got to him.

It was impressive to see Neal consistently run up the gut against GA's "big, talented" front 7. He didn't tear them to shreds like their RB's did our defense, but he had a successful night just the same, and those runs helped keep us in the game.

Given D's will key on Hunter & Patterson all year, we need the OL & Neal et al to keep running the ball well.

  • We are right there. I have to admit I was surprised by how we fought. Didn't expect the defense to stiffen up late and didn't expect us to pound them for 200 yards on the ground. We hardly even heard Jarvis Jones' name tonight at all. I really believe we will beat Miss St. in 2 weeks and I think we can take atleast 1/2 against USC and Alabama. We are going to get that break-through soon. We are really getting to see consistent improvement.

  • Aj johnson needs to move to tail back.tn,needs a big back who could open up the run game.we have to many 3rd down backs and scat backs.we dont have a big back.move aj and the head coach might save his job.running game opens up the passing game.no double teams worried about the rinning game.so please, move aj he has outscored all of the running backs combined

What I don't get is the fact we ran the ball well, but i don't recall much at all in the way of play action passes. Where there any?

Welcome to the board 34_slim. If only we could have the luxury of taking AJ away from the defense, you may have a good point. AJ is a strong north/south runner, but he is also the Vols #1 tackler if I am not mistaken. On the other hand, I believe Neal is beginning to evolve into a true SEC type running back. Some more time under Graham, and Neal has the potential to be a solid RB.

Again, welcome to the board! +1

Not a bad thought, but he's our best defensive player. We are struggling enough over there biggrin

  • Great question. I too saw very little if any play action. There was a sort of double play action that I thought Bray held too long and then almost threw and INT, but nothing other than that comes to mind. Gary Danielson called almost every run play before Tennessee ran, because he noticed something about where our backs lined up. He thought the GA D was keying on the same "tells".

This is true. And Bray has never been a guy who commits to his play action very well either.

  • A+ to our O line. Big time manning up against a bruising D. Making holes. Plowing big men backward. Running when the D knew we wanted to run. I haven't seen us do that for an entire game in years. Yeah baby!
