I somewhat disagree on Hunter. He is not the receiver he was early in his career when he really wanted the ball. Witness the last play of the game. I am not blaming him for the loss in any way. That belongs to Sunseri's defense or lack thereof. Even a moderately effective defense and what would our record be. We talk about a slow defensive backfield and not setting the edge and so on but teams with even less talent do better. I just can't equate this level of bad with a transition to the 3/4. I still love my Vols.

  • Ryan, Hunter cont'd to drop key passes and he had the ball taken away from him to end the game. I think Zach Rogers ought to be the marquis receiver.

I agree. Can you imagine him losing a "jump ball" before his injury? The SC DB wanted that ball more and he took it.

    Exactly!

  • And...I have to name names but I don't understand why Byron Moore (3) is a starter. I was at the game and I count 4 TD's against or at him. He is not a good safety. He had a lot of tackles because they knew he was weak and ran the plays at him!

  • Okay, forgive my low FB IQ, but why is that recorded as a sack. I don't remember him taking Bray to the mat on that play but if he did it was certainly after the fumble.

  • Ryan got to agree with you on Hunter today. Tv replay showed he never had more than his fingers on ball & DB had leverage. I think he dropped one, maybe on a third down. Thought he & Bray played much better today. O line had an outstanding game. Not so sure Bray has to throw the jump ball at that point.

  • Not sure how a game MVP goes to Justin Hunter. This year he has shown an inability to catch anything thrown his way over the middle in traffic. He has also missed more than his share of big throws on key downs. Maybe his nickname should be T-Rex, because he can play ferociously sometimes but often with really, really, really, short arms.

  • Is it just me, or did the referees seem to call a biased game? Two blown calls on one drive cost us the ball, the momentum, and a touchdown (still, if we can't stop 'em on 3rd and goal at the 26...) and almost called a late hit our interception in the 4th. Just seemed a little fishy to me.

  • There's an entire thread dedicated to the refs.

    Bear,

I agree about Hunter..IIRC he had dropped an easy catch in the game, but what really bothered me was, after a catch on the sideline, when the defenders closed in on him, instead of lowering his shoulder and trying to gain yards, he just dropped down to the ground.

Seems to me he has NFL on his mind instead of UT.

  • I lost count of how many times during a drive when I was screaming we need a Turnover!!! But Sal kept trying to protect our sorry secondary by not blitzing..Witmore pressure Shaw would not had such a big game..Kudos to Spurrier for exposing yet another weakness by throwing to the TE..When he was covered at all it was a mismatch with a LB

concur..O Line should get his MVP. Might be the best O Line that I have seen at Tennessee. To basically own SC's D on the road is remarkable and each one of those guys deserves a game ball and huge kudos. Without their effort, toughness and grit, we arent in this game.

Which isnt to say that Im down on Justin. He played well Sat..BUT, we sure could use that one big play out of him, and we just didnt see it in the big SEC games this year. He had another chance at the end with that jump ball on a guy half a foot smaller and he gets out jumped. Now, dont get me wrong, very few receivers can make that play, but one of them is #11. We have all seen him do it before.. Love my vols and will always be there through thick and thin..hurting right now though.
