This football program is in a difficult spot right now

  • The fact of the matter is many head coaches turned down the job before Dooley took it.

There were feelers put out for other defensive coordinators even if we only offered Sal. (Who I think is a good one...)

    We lost to Kentucky.

Dooley botched the DeAnthony Arnett thing.

    We lost six assistant coaches.

We're coming off two consecutive losing records.

I know we all love Tennessee, but it's hard to blame a recruit for not wanting to play for us right now. I hate that Otha Peters and Dalton Santos are liars, but the truth hurts sometimes, guys. Above is the truth.

    The turnaround isn't close.

Not going to go that far...we still have a team that can be really good this year. Sure the 2 lb decommits hurt but its far from the end of the world.

  • I think everything will be fine. The more I think about it... I think you will see the turn around on the field this year. They lost some coaches, but replaced them with some great hires. Losing Peters hurts, but it's not the death of the program. As long as the injury bug stays away from the starters, everyone will be pleased this fall.

  • Didn't say it was the end of the world. But we also lost Damien Jacobs and Otis Jacobs. We also may not be finished losing commitments. I'm concerned about Bourque and McNeil still. Bourque and Peters were close.

I'm just saying we're in a tough spot. Do you guys think it's a turnaround if we win eight next year ... only to see Hunter, Da'Rick and Bray bolt for the NFL?

This class was huge for depth in the front seven. We lost it.

    GhostofNeyland

  • We're all hurting over the shape our program is in, but got to stay positive and support the young men who will sign tomorrow and the young me who has worn the orange already in previous years. Things are at a low point for us, but i'm still as proud as ever to be a Tennessee Vol.

I know it's hard my friend , but try to stay positive.

  • Negative nancy. Sunshine pumper. Blah, blah, blah.

    I'm a realist.

I love the Vols. I will still attend every game I can afford. I will still read every morsel of information about UT. I will still cheer every kid wearing the orange. I will still support Derek Dooley until he is let go.

But things are not stable at UT right now. Bash me for telling the truth. I can take it. I hope the hires we made are great ones. Because the last staff Dooley had were not.

I really like Peterman as a qb. It depends if any of the other WRs step up and produce. That will be key. The o line will still have seniors for a change. If Tennessee can find someone to step up and run the ball, I think they will be fine. The running game is what is what is going to be crucial after Bray leaves. Tennessee will need to sign at least 5 line backers next year if they are serious about the 3-4. Maybe 6 actually. The 2013 class will be Dooley's best class.

It's your opinion, not the truth. --edited -- you're right, the program is unstable at the moment. I take exception to posts that list by line item all the bad stuff we've gone through in the last year. We know. I think we are in miles better shape than we were a year ago. I think getting behind the program with a little positive energy will help stabilize it. There's another opinion to consider.

  • Not getting into a pissing contest with my fellow UT brethren. It's not my style. So, I'll respectfully disagree with your assessments, VolBaller33.

Blind faith is a wonderful thing because it allows you to be oblivious to the actual negative cycles that happen in life. I choose to go through life with my eyes open, and if you or anybody else want to be critical with me, that's certainly your right and why you pay your $9.95.

Call me a negative nancy or whatever. I'll call myself a fan. And I'll call you one. Hopefully, we'll be cheering for a winner as soon as next year. But keeping players like Peters and Santos go a long way in us getting "back" and I just feel like not signing a class full of those kids hurts our chances to return sooner rather than later.

Again, not going to bash you. I have pointed out my stance. I'm not disgruntled at all. I'm kind of at a loss at this point.

    GhostofNeyland

  • I also think if Hunter, Bray, and Rogers all bolt to the NFL.... Tennessee wins more than 8 games.

Santos and peters are kids. Still in high school bro. As a dad, I think calling calling these kids liars is going way too far. No offense meant, but they are kids, and we need to act like adults. I love Tennessee as much ad anybody, but these kids haven't signed anything and gave verbal commitments. Neither promised 100% that this is where they were coming. I know this hurts, but at the end of the day this decision is about their future, not ours. None of us has the right to bash kids for making decisons about their future, even if we disagree. They are under a microscope you and I haven't been under, and more than anything they are kids, not adults, so let's give them a break please.

  • Sunday night Peters told TOS to tell UT fans not to worry about anything, he's signing with Tennessee.

He maybe didn't lie. He just didn't tell the truth.

Santos said his word is "strong as oak." Must have been termites.

    Again, facts.

People lie. They do. Call it what you want.

    GhostofNeyland

  • We lost six assistant coaches.

After Kentucky most people wanted the majority of the staff replaced, yet everytime someone was gone people panicked. I get confused by this.

I disagree on Bray. Landry Jones, Tyler Wilson, Matt Barkley, and Aaron Murray are all ahead of him. Compared to those guys, with the resume he's put out so far, Bray is a 2nd round pick (with 1st round talent, of course). He'd have to be 1st team All-American to jump that list of QBs.

Whoa there Debbie Downer. We are going to be putting out our best team since 2007 next year. A team who has 2 of the top 5 offensive players on offense, a top 25 defense, and 20 returning starters. If healthy we could easily win 10 games next year. Go take some Prozac. chairshot

People do lie. All people. You and I included. I can't say this any plainer though, they are KIDS! I'm not trying to be a jerk, but I believe in standing up for what is right. If you are interested in facts then here's one that is usually universally accepted: its sleazy for an adult to call kids they don't know liars and/or call them names. Some adult calls my kid a liar in a situation like this and I am gonna be pissed and so would you. Let the one without sin throw the first stone. You and I lied as kids too, so look in the mirror before you bash 17 & 18 year old kids please.

  • I understand your frustration GhostoNeyland. The past few years' events have been difficult for every Volunteer fan, however merely pointing out the downfalls does little but show that you have noted/observed the same shortcoming all of Volnation has also seen. Said differently, saying that the program is "unstable" without providing a solution (and a realistic means of employing that solution) is, well, counter-productive. Constructive criticism is good, IF it is constructive. Unfortunately, we can do nothing about the detrimental effect of (Lame) Kiffin, the lost to KY, the losing seasons, or Santos and Peters choosing not to play on RockyTop. We can however control how we support Tennessee (the program, coaches, current players and new recruits that will sign tomorrow) with our WORDS and actions. Negativity naturally surrounds an "unstable program"----Let’s not add to it....
