This is a HUGE Decision for Hart

  • Since becoming the athletic director for Tennessee Hart has never had to make as big of a decision that is now being whispered about in Knoxville.

Hart before was able to argue Dooley wasn't his hire, and that Hamilton had made several poor decisions in how the program had been managed his last few years. But now if Hart lets Dooley go, along with some of the staff, he knows he has to hit the nail on the head with this hire. Otherwise, he may let go.

Hart may decide to keep Dooley. But why? Dooley had, on paper, a very favorable schedule to prove "you won't have Tennessee to kick around anymore" and well those words didn't ring true.

Hart seems to be the type of person who doesn't make decisions as big as this without doing his research on who is a realistic replacement and if that person will fit. My honest opinion is this decision will affect Hart's position just as much as it will Dooley's if he doesn't get it right.

Which means as fans its going to be a long December. twocents

  • Actually, I don't think making the decision to replace the football coach is that big of a decision - getting everyone lined up behind the scenes (major donors, university administrators, BOT members) is the big chore. As for the next coach, I don't think he is making that decision in a vacuum. I've read repeatedly that he has a circle of close advisors and I am sure they are assisting him. I am also sure he has no shortage of agents calling either.

Getting everyone on board to replace Dooley at this point may not be that hard to do, as long as the finances works out. But Hart's selection is going to have to be one that gets attention and that may be a problem because there may be a lot of agents calling but I wonder if any of them are proven coaches and have the ability to coach and recruit in the SEC. This hire, if it does actually take place, is going to be the biggest decision Hart has had to make since he came to UT. JMO

  • I find it really hard to see any HC's of any significant caliber lining up for this position . This program must look like damaged goods at this point looking for another Head Coach our 4th in only 5 years not exactly a track record that will be appealing to prospective coaches . One of these days I hope we get away from the " win now philosophy " both as a fan base and program , this philosophy has never built a single a successful program yet we keep going back to it . Now is not the time to change coaches sure it's frustrating and disappointing as fans to watch this but now is the time for patience . This change will destroy any recruiting class traction we have and let's face we need all the talented players we can get something we can little afford to do .

  • At best Dooley gets one more win than he did last season and that's not a gimme. Yes he has done a good job building the roster but you have to win and he hasn't. He has established the VFL program and that is something that will get better with time. They have built a state of the art training facility which will help current players and should be drawing interest from the top recruits in the country and as right now I think we have a legit shot at landing two 5* this year in Von Bell & JC Toby Johnson who just tore his ACL and will probably miss part of next season if he doesn't RS. I've watched and studied football all my life and a good coach can will his team to wins in some of these close games we have been in the last 3yr. The last SEC win we had was against vandy last year and while the refs made the right call IMO it was questionable. We keep loosing winnable games and that is unacceptable with the money this university puts toward its football program. Tennessee can't win close games and that starts with coaching and now everyone expects us to loose these games, just listen to the commentators they'll say the same thing. We have the talent all we need is a coach who knows how to win.
