This is how vf28 sees it. Warning: it's not pretty. Some ?s

  • TBH, after the heart break of Bell giving us the finger I don't care about next year until at least mid-season 2013. Recruiting is over asides from setting up relationships for next signing season. Neat news from that time to time, but honestly who cares with the way guys flip this way and that. We had the ears of several bigtime recruits who went elsewhere, sucks, but we can lay them at Dooley's feet. Butch got us in the door at least, Dooley wasn't even a part of their consideration. 5 four stars and several highly rated 3* a few more mid 3*'s and so on. Not what we hoped for, but all considering how'd we expect a top 10 class with the last 5 miserable seasons and multiple coaches? I'm just glad we hung on to a top 25 finish(i think). Just stinks to high heaven we're 11th in the SEC. I hate to even look to see who was 12th. All that is to say we will be alright, is alright 12-0, not by a long shot. Next season won't be as bad as you predict. 2nd year in the O and D systems, I sorta doubt anyone outside of Seniors are gone. After the season our Defense put in(2012) I just don't see anyone being hot enough to garner much (2014)Draft praise. If they do I think it'd mean we did better than average, which helps next seasons Recruiting class enormously. Being able to back count i think 5 or 6 to this year will pay huge dividends.

    6-6.5 is a great over/ under for 2013.

2013 roster/season needs IMO were met as our biggest needs were getting a juco CB, juco TE, top WR (North and then an EE Paul Harris), and IMO EE HS safeties and we got 2 (JRM and L Johnson) to go with BR, BMoore and McNeil that have played (who knows on Brewer). We also got a beast LB as an EE in Vereen...that could rush at DE in sub packages.

Please remember only a very selct few players will really contribute their 1st year and those are the 2 jucos, North, many an EE safety, and maybe Vereen at LB a bit + 1-2 more. Usually you will only see 4-6 a year really play much other than STs

We got 2 pass rushers at DE......J Miller will play in 2014 a ton. M Brown might be more of a project for 1-2 years and RS.

As for CB: Oliver, Gray, Coleman, juco EE R. Jones should be able to get it done with a simpler 4-3 and better coaching + the key being much better safety play which the 4-3 will really help them play faster.

As for 2014 I think we are still looking at 6 wins as the over/under. IF we can get to a bowl game both years that is a job well done. We still should have won 6 games at least in 2011 and 2012 and we had a brutal schedule then too.

Needs for the 2014 class is no doubt: DE, DT, OT, LB and RB........its not even close. It is very important because it will define IMO the success and failure of Jones. Go look at coaches in their 2nd year this year and the 2nd class they landed this year and you will see how key it is.

The program is still way way better than it was in Dec 2009. We just need to win to get those 4-6 key needs filled guys that make an ok/good class a great class. Next year look for them to be TKjr and Hurd and big uglies incl LBs.

    GBO!

This is the kind of response I look for when I make a thread. +1

IMO, we are in great position to fill our needs with the 2014 class.

    S - TKjr, Elliot Berry
    CB - Evan Berry
    LB - Bates
    LB - Petera Wilson
    RB - Hurd
    OL - Bars
    WR - Creamer

This would be a solid foundation to recruit off of. If we can get these guys on board before the All-American games, it would be huge.

The biggest need we can't meet with in-state kids or legacy kids is DE. I'm hoping we can pull the trio from Norcross, which includes the best DE in the country, Lorenzo Carter. We should in the thick of things for Featherston since he's from NC. It will be interesting to see who we can sign at the postion. We will have immediate playing time to offer and a system that has historically generated a lot of sacks.

I up voted +1 because I can!! Lol ... Tight-Ends are a Huge part of an Offense especially against over pursuing Defenses and such? Tight-ends actually come in two different varieties in today's game? The Big Bruiser type Blocking Tight-End and the Speedy Fast Great hands type and just about All the Major colleges have been using this system for years now.

Agree with THIS........add 3-4 DTs in the 2014 class. We cant sniff that instate and the same at OT and DEs. But you are right......the legacys need to get this class going and help.
