Many of you are too young to remember, but Linda Bensel-Myers, the former English teacher at UT who was the principal source for Gator Tom Farrey to do the "expose" on academic fraud at UT, and who did her very darndest to get us in big trouble with the NCAA (unsuccessfully), was one of the first bigwigs at the Drake group when founded, and was turned into a HUGE nationally known faculty heroine by them.

Our "academic issues" which concern most candidates began with the administration overreacting to her allegations, and have continued as athletics lost control of the Thornton center, the AD began answering to the Chancellor rather than the President, etc. And the last several Presidents have been a poor shadow of Joe Johnson, including a philanderer and thief of university funds, and a dude who just used us as a stepping stone.

And to cap it all off, the Chancellor who is now in charge wants to re-make us into an "elite" public academic institution, like UVA or UNC. When one of them wins a National Championship in football, please notify me.

EDIT: This started well over a decade ago, and may well take more than a decade to fix, esp. at the rate we're going.
