Tommy Tuberville

  • I hear his name is being thrown around some. Y'alls thoughts? I don't think it would be a terrible idea to hire him; he won at Auburn, who's to say he couldn't win at UT?

  • I'm becoming a broken record on Tuberville. Hart needs to offer him a job. He wins in the SEC and wants back in the conference. Offer him whatever Texas Tech is paying him and give him the best assistants he can find.

  • Not against him either. Just have to put together a really good staff that can recruit.

Honestly, I think he's the safest option out there. He went unbeaten in '04 and kicked our asses four times as head coach ('03, '04 reg season, '04 SECCG, '08) He's a lot safer a hire than Jones or Roman or even Fedora. JMO

  • Why would you hire Tuberville over Fulmer? Similar situations, only Fulmer can go get Chief and Tuberville cannot.

Seriously, Fulmer is a better answer to stabilize the program while we fix these academic issues. What is the point of settling for someone who isn't a home run that we're just going to have to replace again in three years?

I know Fulmer slipped a bit at the end of his run but if he got the gang back together he could kill it here, and he's had time to recharge his batteries.

Also is 4-2 against Nick Saban.

Fulmer and Tuberville, from a talent standpoint, would be nearly identical. We couldn't go wrong, either way. And I think that Chavis could still be enticed back here, no matter who the coach is.

  • Don't think Chief coming back is a given by any means. I could see Tubberville here

Tuberville is shifty. Remember when he told Ole Miss they'd have to carry him off campus in a box, then took the Auburn job a few days later? I'd be hard pressed to believe Tuberville would find Tennessee anything more than a stepping stone back into the SEC and ultimately to a different position.

Perhaps, but UT is a destination job, I don't care what anyone says. I don't think the second winningest SEC school in history could be viewed as a stepping stone into...the SEC. Also, what big SEC head coaching job (LSU, Bama, Auburn) is gonna open up in the next 5 years? I, for one, think he'd stay put...and do well here. Again, JMO.

To where, though? He isn't going back to Auburn. Arkansas didn't want him. Alabama will have Saban until he dies / the NCAA says otherwise. Tennessee could easily become Tuberville's last ride.

I think Chavis got a huge payday at Lsu. Don't want to drop any numbers because it's been a long time since I read the article but if I recall correctly it's a ridiculously large number.

  • Tuberville is worth a close look. I could get behind it.

  • Wasn't it Tuberville who knocked the headset off his assistant's head a few weeks ago? I remember a lot of people on this board taking him down a notch or two because of it.

Because Fulmer had his chance here and he burned out. He didn't have anything left in the tank and I am not wanting to give him another shot. Tuberville is vastly more appealing to me
