Tommy Tuberville takes Cincinnati job

  • Kind of strange going from Texas Tech to Cincinnati.

  • That's a bit surprising IMO.twocents

I think that speaks to what Jones helped build at UC. When both D'Antonio and Kelly left, a coach like Tuberville wasn't a realistic option. Now UC can go after a coach several people thought should have been considered for the Tennessee job.

Congrats on Tubs. Be ready for mediocre football. He was 20-17 the last three seasons at Tech.

We think so, too. We got the big-splash hire that I think you guys needed. We would have been happy to keep Coach Jones, but right now it looks like we got a for-sure upgrade.

You guys will still be happy with CBJ, though. He and his staff are tireless recruiters and CBJ is developing as a game-day coach.

Tuberville wouldn't have been a splash hire here. I like what Tubbs did. He can win 10 games in the Big East and cash it in for a more high profile job. He will be in Cinci two years, tops. He was never going to be able to get enough talent to win consistently against TX, OK, K State, TCU, etc. running his system. He would either be stuck in mediocrityfor years in Texas Tech or get fired by an administration that got used to all those Mike Leach wins. Good move for Tubbs and Cinci.

Tuberville immediately becomes the face for what is left of the Big East. Remember in 2014 the Big East will no longer get an automatic bid into the access bowls. They will be pooled into the remaining 5 conferences, and I believe the highest rated non access conference championship team will be given the auto birth. What I think this may signify for Cincinnati is conference realignment. The remaining Big East schools who care about football are all going to be making pushes trying to get in to a larger conference.

Cinci has no where to go but hope to create a new and sustainable Big East or for Maryland to win its ACC legal fight and reduce its buyout. The Big Ten isn't taking Cinci. The SEC isn't taking Cinci. The Big 12 isn't taking Cinci and neither is the Pac 12. The reported scenarios if Maryland wins in their legal clash with the ACC, is Florida State and Clemson to the Big 12, Georgia Tech to the Big Ten, and Duke and Carolina to the SEC. Pitt, Louisville, Syracuse, VA, VA Tech, BC, NC State, Miami, Wake, would be the core of the new ACC, maybe Cinci sneaks in there, but that conference would be second tier with the defections. All speculation, but I don't see anyway Cinci goes anywhere but the ACC and if that happens it means the ACC has already been raided.

Just shows you how much he wanted to leave Texas Tech.

Good get for Cincy IMO. Instead of them hiring another young up-and-comer that they'll lose to a bigger school maybe a guy like Tuberville will stay there awhile. shrug
