Tyler Bray - USA Today article today

  • Funny they don't have a "between the ears rating". I'd guess it would be kinda low.

  • Wow. Down vote for saying Bray has to be juicing. Sorry that I didn't say his life is full of rose petals and sunshine.

You don't feel like he is then say something and let's talk about it. Don't hide behind a DV.

I didn't downvote you, but as a journalist I would tell you that to make such an allegation is likely libelous. Particularly without proof.

I'm sorry. 24 pounds of muscle in three months? While here he is a stick the whole time and then suddenly he comes out looking like the hulk?

The kids juicing. Guess he figured that's what he needed to do to get a payday but I just never have known anyone to bulk up that quickly just by lifting, eating brown rice, chicken and protein shakes. Especially a guy who for years talked about how he struggled to put on more weight.

This wouldn't suprise me at all. 24 lbs of muscle in six months or a year is impressive. Three months is kinda funny. But who knows maybe its not all muscle and he gained some weight and he has spun it in his favor.

  • Why do you guys all assume he gained all this weight in three months?

Players aren't weighed for the record during the season. He may have started packing it on during the season after the beginning of the year weigh in. We know he weighed more at the beginning of the season than he did the previous year. Why couldn't it have been a continuous process?

You know I'm a journalist and as a journalist you should also know that any opinion is covered if the person is a public figure.

And considering he's been in the public eye for three years now he's a public figure.

Wonder why Lamce Armstrong didn't sue every journalist over the years? Hmmm?

Actually, that's not true. It just has to be proved that there's malicious intent for a statement to be considered libelous against a public figure.

I'll explain to you why because I play rugby and also weightlift and we follow similar plans as football players.

You'll notice over the last three months the team has been in strength and conditioning. This is the bulking phase and the time to add lean muscle. Why now and not in season? The reason is during the season you are doing a lot more cardio than you are lifting. Your running around in games and during practice. You are burning A TON of calories. In order to gain muscle you have to actually take in more calories than you burn. What that means is for the average person you are on a 2000 calorie diet. These kids go to a practice and let's say they burn 2000 cals. That becomes a net of 4000 cals so on order to gain weight they would have to eat 4000 cals plus. And I'm not talking Quarterpounders. It would need to come from lean protein sources or you end up blowing up like the stay puff marshmallow man.

So you bulk during the off season and get your cardio during season and during practice seasons. He won't have time to bulk anyway. I doubt very seriously any kid whose practicing four days a week and then playing on Saturday would want to also go to the gym three to four times a week also to lift.

As far as the weight. It's not all going to be lean muscle mass. It'll be fat as well. When your bulking there's no avoiding gaining fat as well. If a person starts bulking you are usually on an 8-12 week program. Okay so he did 12 weeks. A person can normally gain about a pound a week during bulking. Depending upon the person it could be more or less. Some guys can gain like no ones business. I can bulk very quickly on a regime.

The problem with Bray is he has absolutely no history over the past three years to show he's a fast gainer and there's been plenty of stories written over the past three years about his troubles with gaining.

Then all of a sudden he appears out of the closet for three months and looks like Superman. Just following a trend I've seen before.

And does the NFL even test for supplements? I don't think they do. If that's what he's doing, power to him. If not, great for him. But it just looks suspicious to me.

Yeah true. Forgot the malicious intent.

But that's also where it's extremely difficult for public officials or figures to sue and win in libel cases. It's difficult to prove if it is malicious and if there was intent.

If it were that easy I would have been sued yesterday and again tomorrow with another story.

Heck Poor Ol Wes would be living on a trailer right now.

And how's Peyton outside the pocket? Few classic dropback passers are mobile.

  • I'll just note that this story says a weight gain of one to two pounds a week is possible and reasonably healthy. By my count, it's been 13 weeks since the end of the season. I'll let you do the math.

How To Put On Weight For Football | LIVESTRONG.COM

How To Put On Weight For Football. A common football mantra is bigger, stronger, faster. Putting on weight often gives football players a significant advantage over lighter players in this contact sport. It is important to add weight in muscle and not fat. A heavier player tends to be a slower player unless the added weight is in muscle. It is also important to gain the weight gra...
