Tyler Bray to have surgery on his broken thumb.

  • It doesn’t look like sophomore quarterback Tyler Bray will be back during the regular season, as the plan now is for him to have surgery on his broken thumb. This was in the ESPN Power Rankings by Chris Low. Is this true and if so what are the plans for him? Can he get a Medical Redshirt and if so will this alter Tennessee's plans for Justin Worley?

  • Wow, don't understand this. Why would have surgery on a broken thumb?

I am not sure. Here is the power ranking from ESPN:

    8. Tennessee (3-3, 0-3): There’s not a lot guaranteed for the Vols the rest of the way other than the fact that they’re going to have to scratch and claw just to finish .500 or better. It doesn’t look like sophomore quarterback Tyler Bray will be back during the regular season, as the plan now is for him to have surgery on his broken thumb. The Vols will need to get more out of backup quarterback Matt Simms and the passing game from here on out, but this next one could be even uglier than the 38-7 home loss to LSU last week. The Vols travel to Alabama looking to snap an eight-game losing streak against nationally ranked foes.

  • If ligaments or tendons were damaged, then Bray will need surgery to repair the thumb in order to have the same strength/grip. I'm sure the doctors know what's best. Just another bad break.

  • WOW, UT just can't catch a break to save our lives, Rock bottom sure does suck.. Bad.I guess this is what vandy and Kentucky feels like most of the time. I will never make fun of them again.

not that bad i hope , yet ...we should beat both of those teams this year and we are building towards a much better team next year ; you lose some great players this year in Poole , Jackson , B Martin but we have most all of this years team back plus you get Hunter , Bray and Lathers back as well . With a great recruiting class that should bring in some really great players at DL , LB , WR and DB - wow we could be a much better team next year as well as giving the existing players another year in the system cheers

    How is Justin Worley doing?
I really liked him when i seen him playing on T.V.
He has a confidence about him that i like to see in all quarterbacks and i really think he will be great for ya'll.
He is one player i wanted that we were not recruiting.
    TIA

He is still not expected to miss but 6 weeks. I think he had the surgery already this morning and they put a plate in.

he cannot get a medical redshirt. has played too much. Worley will only play if Simms goes down

So he could still be back for the Vandy and/or UK game.

very possible is what they are saying. I'm a skeptic so I've been skeptical prior to the surgery. My thinking was it would be bowl game before he was ready to play. But they are saying UK or VU..

  • Guys, I am no Dr. but I have just gone through a bad finger break with my Mom. If it is a horizontal break it should heal straight and quickly. If it is a radial break(like my Mom's) it is difficult to get it to heal straight which can, and in his case would most likely, cause performance problems. As you all know the thumb is critical to our day to day function as humans. It is very critical to a QB. I think the surgery will expedite the speed and quality of the healing process. Maybe we do get him back for the Vandy and UK games. There I go with my glass is half full stuff again.headslap

  • TOS reported that Bray had a plate inserted today to assist with healing, and the 6 week window is expected to hold up.

  • Let me just say I hope he can come back but only if he is 100% the worst thing that can happen would be for him to come back early just to come back and get hurt again trying to beat Vandy or Kentucky. I would rather loose those two and have him back 100% ready to go next year with Hunter back too than to rush him back get him hurt again and him have a long term affect on his hand. If it is good to go then bring him back and let him play for sure.
