UT commits react to Jones hiring

None of Cincinnati's commitments really were targeted by the previous staff, no.

  • Ryan ... Any word on Eldridge Massington.? Would he consider Tenn with Butch Jones as our coach now?

Ryan. I'm kinda interested in what K. Bynum thinks. I know we turned him from Cincy last year and he seemed to think highly of Coach Jones. Bynum would be a great interview right now! Got any info?

great idea. I'd love to hear his take as well.

And he finished 25th in 2011 and we finished......? And he did it with 2and 3 star players. Look people, he was far from my first choice as coach, but hearing all this crap is disgusting! Its harder to recruit to a school like UC but he won with the players he got. Our recruiting classes ain't exactly burnt it up in recent years. Nobody wanted the job and he took it so I'll support him and give him the benefit of the doubt. Lets act like we have some class and give the man a chance. vols

Can we fire this guy already? I know I will get some down votes & I honestly don't care. I would rather clean out the AD, Chancellor, & this hack of a HC so we can start over.

I know everyone is emotional right now however, going onto public sites and making such comments only do more harm than good. and I bet it didn;t even make you feel any better doing it, did it?

you certainly have the right to express yourself and no I did not down vote you. I would appreciate it though if you would just stay off the net if you are going to say such things. the guy has a conf championship 4 of the past 6 seasons and he wants to be here. he is 2-1 against Strong and probably should be 3-0.

so, please give the guy a chance and not to mention a little support. otherwise grab a shovel, dig a hole, and insert your head. and/or go another team.

I believe he's runs a shotgun spread now.

i think jones like the option in running the quarterback alot ..best i can remember..but coming to tenn
we got worley and peterman..peterman and jones could be a winning combo
jones will have to play what offense worley can run right?

I could care less. I see I have 23 down votes now, woopty do!! I love this site & about everyone else on here. It's still not going to change my opinion on this & I will stand my ground. If he wins that's great, but I seriously doubt it. At this stage of the game, Roman would have been a better fit & much better option than good ole Lyle. By the way, how am I doing harm by saying what a lot of people are already thinking? People have their own opinions & I'm not trying to convince anyone on here otherwise, right? I'm just stating mine & thankfully getting down voted won't take my birthday away or cause me to lose my privileges on this site.

Getting back to Butch, he’s 1-2 in Bowl games with his only win coming last year to Vandy & they would have lost to Duke if he was still coaching there. They lost to a Sun Belt school (FAU) & a sorry Purdue team. On top of that, he lost to Dooley! Talk about a turn around, with MAC teams & Big East on your schedule anybody have a winning record. As far as I'm concerned, all he's done is take Brian Kelly’s sloppy seconds & make a career out of being just above mediocre... At least I'm not condemning him to hell or anything like that kind of like some of the more extreme UT fans are doing to Hart, Cheek, & Butch.

  • I honestly don't care about anything but his defensive recruiting. UT will always get offensive players but we have to find a way to start getting elite defensive linemen and corners again.

The only reason Dooley beat him was b/c we had FAR superior talent than Cincy did.

  • My guess is he'll keep most of the recruits already committed. I'll be interested to see if he can recruit the 4 and 5 star players after his first or second year. Let's face it: to win in the SEC, you absolutely must have the top drawer play makers. Notice I didn't say 'to be competitive in the SEC.' We've been competitive over the last 3 years - we just didn't win.

I said many times over the last two years that Derrick Dooley was the Buzz Peterson of Tennessee football. Nice guy, and everybody liked him as a person....but unable to win even one close game that would have big for the program. Dooley's legacy could be summed up in four words: Close, but no cigar.

    2for2true

  • Seriously they are all three stars, where are they going? Alabama????? LOL.

  • RILEY FERGUSON IS A SERIOUS OUT AND REMINDS ME OF TOMMY WEST BECAUSE HE COULD START AT THREE SPOTS. HE WILL BE A SERIOUS OUT WHEN HE GETS TO KNOXVILLE.
