UT receives votes in USA Today preseason coaches poll

Tennessee is listed under "Others receiving votes" with three points, while LSU narrowly edged Alabama for No. 1 in the preseason rankings. Other SEC teams in the poll: Georgia at No. 6, South Carolina at No. 9, Arkansas at No. 10, Florida at No. 23 and Auburn at No. 25.

USC is third in return to poll after two-year ban. There are seven teams from Southeastern Conference appearing in Top 25.

How many points do we have win by against NC State to be ranked or do you feel it will take more than that to break into the top 25. I think the last time we were ranked was 08........ Way to long

I think it probably would take more than just a win against N.C. State for UT to be ranked, but that also may depend on how many Top 25 teams lose in Week 1. If the Vols start 3-0, I think they'll be ranked.

Perhaps if we post 40+ points in our first two games, we'll sneak into the top 25.

We would have to demolish NC State similar to what Bama did against Clemson 4 years back. At that time Clemson was #9 and Bama #24. Bama jumped to #12 after that pounding. If we can win along the lines of 45-21 we could sneak in to the top 25 for the UF game.

Also, not sure if anyone else noticed this, but N.C. State picked up 11 points in the poll to Tennessee's three points. Of course, N.C. State went 8-5 last year while UT went 5-7, so that obviously played a part in those votes. But I still thought it was interesting.

Anyone else feel like it's a joke that Florida is ranked? More roster turnover, offensive coordinator leaves, Muschump still a tool. Definitely a reputation ranking imo.

Who would you put instead? They have a top 10 defense in the country. They are plenty deserving.
